Prince Harry And Duchess Meghan Release A Statement Following Prince Philip's Death

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are paying their respects to the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Following the news that the Duke of Sussex's grandfather (the longest-serving royal consort in British history) had passed away early this morning at the age of 99, the Sussexes released a brief statement expressing their grief. Similar to how the royal family's official website paused content to honor the late duke, the Sussexes followed suit and posted their message on the homepage of their nonprofit organization's official website, Archewell.

"In loving memory of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021," read the note. "Thank you for your service...you will be greatly missed."

Buckingham Palace first broke the news of Philip's passing in a statement that was shared across the royal family's social media channels and from other royal members, including Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, and, of course, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," the palace announced. "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

The news of the Duke of Edinburgh's passing follows the late royal having spent weeks in the hospital earlier this year to treat an infection and an underlying heart condition. Prince Philip would have celebrated his 100th birthday later this summer on June 10.
