Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Getting Baby Gifts From Around the World

From the donations of globalsussexbabyshower to plush toy kookaburras, here's just some of the gifts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received.

The arrival of Baby Sussex is fast approaching, and it’s not just the royal family that’s celebrating. Across the world, people have sent the expecting parents an avalanche of gifts.

First, there was the viral success of #globalsussexbabyshower. The movement started on Twitter, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s fans encouraged each other to donate to the couple’s favorite charities. A week later, the duke and duchess themselves chimed in to highlight specific foundations. “What an incredibly special surprise the grassroots led #globalsussexbabyshower was last Sunday,” they wrote. “If you already made a donation, the couple send you their greatest thanks. If you are thinking about it, they ask that you kindly consider the following organisations.” Then, they tagged The Lunchbox Fund, Little Village, WellChild, and Baby2Baby.

And everyone listened: Each charity received a substantial uptick in donations. The Lunchbox Fund will now be able to provide 100,000 more meals to children in South Africa, and Baby2Baby received more than 5,000 baby items, including cribs, diapers, and books.

Also impressive was the geographical diversity of it all, with contributions from the United Kingdom, United States, United Arab Emirates, China, Mexico, and Italy, to name a few.

Undoubtedly, the Duchess of Sussex also received a slew of gifts during her lavish New York City baby shower (the gift bags alone!). But the presents started well before February. During their sprawling royal tour of Australia, the couple received a wide variety of baby items, including a menagerie of stuffed animals: elephants, kangaroos, kookaburras, sheep, dingos, echidnas, emus, humpback whales, wombats, wallabies, monkeys, and even a platypus.

Plus, they were gifted outfits for a variety of Australian activities. In addition to receiving newborn necessities such as hats, socks, and bibs, the couple also got a child’s wetsuit, rugby kit, lifeguard dungarees, and wellies.

But don’t forget the present that started it all: a stuffed koala with a baby joey and a pair of baby Ugg boots. Given to the Sussexes by the Australian governor general and his wife, it was a noticeably exciting moment for the parents-to-be. “That’s so cute, it’s our first baby gift!” Meghan said.

The first of many, many more.
