Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Having a Girl!

Meghan gave birth to her second child, a baby girl named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on Friday, June 4. Read all about the newest member of the Sussex family here.

Update March 7, 2021: During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple revealed that they are having a girl, and that she's due this summer.

When Oprah asked Harry how he felt when he learned that their second child would be a girl, he replied, "Amazing. Just grateful, like—to have any child, any one or any two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl, what more can you ask for?" He added, "now we've got our family. We've got the four of us and our two dogs and it's great."

Original: On Valentine's Day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared some happy news with the world. The Sussexes are expecting their second child together.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple said. The statement was accompanied by a new black and white portrait of Harry and Meghan (below), which was taken remotely by their longtime friend, photographer Misan Harriman.

Unlike in 2018, when Meghan shared that she was pregnant with her first child, baby Archie, the announcement this time around did not include any information about her due date, leaving many to speculate when the newest addition to the Sussex family might arrive. With both pregnancy announcements, the Sussexes did not reveal the baby's sex.

According to Babycenter, a popular resource for parents-to-be in the U.S., "Most pregnant women find out their baby's sex (if they choose to know) during their mid-pregnancy ultrasound, usually between 16 and 20 weeks."

So it's possible that Harry and Meghan might not have been able to find out the child's sex yet (again depending on how far along she is), or they could be choosing not to. Or, thirdly, they might have found out, but are opting to keep that information private for the time being. Harry's brother Prince William, and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were also famously quiet about the sexes of all three of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, until after they were born.
