Prince Harry, Meghan Markle kick off six-week royal sabbatical

Unfortunately for royal fans, there's a chance we won't be seeing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex until 2020.

It's been reported that the couple has already kicked off their six-week sabbatical from royal duties. Says Hello! Magazine, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan don't appear to have any royal duties scheduled for the rest of the year.

Meghan Markle made her last official appearance at a Remembrance Sunday service at London's Cenotaph, alongside other members of the royal family on Nov. 10, while the prince made his last official appearance just this weekend at the OnSide Awards at Royal Albert Hall.

It was announced on Oct. 20 that ahead of the new year, the parents-of-one had planned to pause their royal duties after months of intense public and media scrutiny. The announcement also preceded the premiere of the highly anticipated ITV documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” which aired last month and revealed tensions between Harry and Prince William, as well as Duchess Meghan's emotional response to tabloid treatment.

Reports reveal that the couple is looking forward to using their break to "recharge their batteries," especially given the workload they had taken on so soon after Archie's birth.

"Don't forget that Meghan hasn't really had much maternity leave," said royal expert Katie Nicholl to ET. "She was hard at work on her issue of [British] Vogue, she was working on her Smart Works clothing collection. I don't actually think she had a huge amount of maternity leave at all. I think she worked quite hard behind the scenes for most of her maternity leave. So some might say that they are overdue for a break."

As part of their break, the duke and duchess will be spending baby Archie's first Thanksgiving with Meghan's family in Los Angeles. Although it was initially believed that the family will return to England to spend Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham Estate, it's since been announced by the palace that the Sussexes will spend the holiday with Meghan's mother, Doria, in the states.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month," the statement read. "Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland. This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen."
