Lack of proper security for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could prevent them from attending Prince Philip's upcoming memorial service in England. Page Six reports that the Sussexes had been planning to attend the Spring 2022 service, but said plans are on hold due it it being unsafe for the couple to be in England.

As a source tells the outlet, “If Harry goes, he will want to have security for him and his family. If and when he decides to go back to the UK, he needs security.”

While Harry and Meghan do have their own private security team in the United States, they no longer get police protection in England like other high-profile members of the royal family. This obviously makes traveling to Harry's home country dangerous, which is why he's petitioning the government to grant his family police protection (which he and Meghan have offered to pay for themselves).

Harry's legal spokesperson released a statement about the situation last weekend, saying in part, “The UK will always be Prince Harry's home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in... With the lack of police protection comes too great a personal risk. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the UK. In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home.”

Harry's spokesperson also pointed out that he "inherited a security risk at birth, for life,” and that "While his role within the institution has changed, his profile as a member of the Royal Family has not. Nor has the threat to him and his family.”

The lack of proper security for the Sussexes is honestly absurd, so here's to hoping they can work it out.
