Chances of a reconciliation between Prince Harry, King Charles, the Queen Consort and William is now “impossible” over fears anything they say to the duke will be shared with the press, The Independent can reveal.

“They are trapped,” a source close to the palace has said, adding that the royal family believe the fraught relations will go unchanged while the Duke of Sussex remains effectively “kidnapped by a cult of psychotherapy and Meghan Markle.”

It comes after the Duke of Sussex opened up about his new memoir, Spare, which is said to feature bombshell revelations about his relationship with the royal family, during an interview with Good Morning America’s (GMA) Michael Strahan on Monday 9 January.

During their conversation, Harry attacked what he alleged was Camilla’s attempts to “rehabilitate” her image, after being cast as the “third person” in his parents’ marriage, but also sympathised with her, saying in the interview with GMA that she is not an “evil stepmother”.

“You speak to any other mixed-race couple around the world, and you will probably find that the white side of the family have either openly discussed it, or secretly discussed... ‘What are the kids gonna look like?’” Prince Harry said.

Prince Harry’s new memoir Spare has caused a sensation before it has even been published, not least over a passage describing an altercation with his brother William, illustrating just how far the pair have drifted apart in recent years.

The row is said to have erupted at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace in London in 2019, with the Duke of Sussex alleging his sibling had arrived “piping hot” to confront him about his marriage to the American actress Meghan Markle and their running battles with the British press.

Here is Joe Sommerlad with a timeline of their falling out, largely as told by Harry since his break from the family, with William, the next in line to the British throne, largely preferring to remain silent.

Opinion: What Prince Harry said about drug use and the psychological reason behind it

Monday 9 January 2023 18:30 , Emily Atkinson

Cocaine, like many other psychoactive drugs, is an effective way of altering how we feel or think, writes Ian Hamilton. So if you’re feeling low, cocaine can quickly change that negative feeling and thought pattern. Unlike counselling or mental health services, drugs don’t have a long waiting list or ask invasive questions. Drugs are easy to source and act quickly. In that sense, it is clear to see how they might appeal to someone like a young Prince Harry.

He was hardly unusual in using drugs like cocaine at this stage in his life, as it is young people who in the past made up the majority of those using drugs in a recreational way.

Prince Harry says ‘hunt for royal racist’ began after Oprah interview

Monday 9 January 2023 16:20 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Duke of Sussex was quizzed on why his and the Duchess of Sussex‘s claim about an unnamed royal expressing concerns about how dark their unborn son’s skin would be did not appear in their Netflix documentary or his book.

Harry accused the British press of sparking a “hunt for the royal racist” following the Oprah interview, and warned CBS’s 60 Minutes interviewer Anderson Cooper that he would not discuss the matter further. Cooper said: “That wasn’t brought up in Netflix or in the book. Why?”

Harry replied: “The way the British press reacted to that was fairly typical. There was like a hunt for the royal racist. Neither of us believe that that comment or that experience or that opinion was based on racism.

“Unconscious bias, yes. But I think you speak to the majority of mixed-race couples around the world that the white side of the family would wonder, whether talking openly about it or amongst themselves, what the kids are gonna look like. The key word here was concern, as opposed to curiosity. But the way that the British press, what they turned it into, was not what it was.”

Cooper says: “You stand by that that happened but you just didn’t feel the need to...”

Harry says: “No but what else did I say at the end of, within the Oprah interview?” Cooper “That you would not discuss it further. Harry nods his head.

Prince Harry claims stepmother ‘sacrificed’ him on her ‘personal PR altar’ in upcoming memoir

Monday 9 January 2023 15:21 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Duke of Sussex claimed the Queen Consort “sacrificed me on her personal PR altar”, in the latest interview to promote his controversial memoir.

Harry attacked what he alleged was Camilla’s attempts to “rehabilitate” her image, after being cast as the “third person” in his parents’ marriage, but also sympathised with her, saying in the interview with ABC’s Good Morning America (GMA) that she is not an “evil stepmother”.

The publication of Harry’s book Spare, which is due out on Tuesday, was reportedly delayed following the death of the Queen, but the duke insisted his grandmother was not angry or upset with him for wanting to step down as a senior working royal.

GMA co-host Michael Strahan read an extract from Harry’s book critical of the Queen Consort: “In a funny way I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she was happy.”

Another excerpt said: “I have complex feelings about gaining a step parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”

Asked what Camilla had “done” at that point, Harry replied: “I have a huge amount of compassion for her, you know. Being the third person within my parents’ marriage and she had a reputation, or an image, to rehabilitate.

“Whatever conversations happened, whatever deals or trading was made right at the beginning, she was led to believe that that would be the best way of doing it.”

In a separate interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Harry said Camilla’s willingness to forge relationships with the British press made her “dangerous” and there would be “bodies left in the street because of that”.

‘No place for the monarchy in the 21st century the way it is now'

Monday 9 January 2023 14:29 , Sam Rkaina

The Duke of Sussex said there is a place for the monarchy in the modern world if they addressed unconscious bias.

Asked on Good Morning America if he thinks there is a place for the British monarchy in the 21st century, he said: “I genuinely believe that there is. Not the way that it is now.”

Asked if they need to modernise and if so in what way, Harry said: “I think the same process that I went through with regarding my own unconscious bias would be hugely beneficial to them.

“Not racism, but unconscious bias, if not confronted, if not learned and grown from, that can then move into racism.

“But there was an enormous missed opportunity with my wife.”

During the interview, Harry also said: “I think my mother would have realised the missed opportunity with Meghan being part of the institution, part of the monarchy.”

What is unconscious bias as Prince Harry denies accusing royals of racism

Monday 9 January 2023 14:17 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

In an interview that has sent shockwaves around the world, Prince Harry has denied accusing the royal family of racism in his Oprah interview in March 2021, after Meghan revealed an unnamed family member raised concerns about how dark their unborn son Archie’s skin would be.

“No I didn’t … the British press said that … did Meghan ever mention that they’re racist? …There was concern about his skin colour,” the duke told ITV’s Tom Bradby on Sunday night.

Even Bradby was taken aback, asking: “Wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?” Harry replied: “I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family.”

Late Queen was not angry with Duke for wanting to step down as senior royal, he claims

Monday 9 January 2023 13:58 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Duke of Sussex has insisted his grandmother the late Queen was not angry or upset with him about wanting to step down as a senior working royal.

Interviewer Michael Strahan asked him on Good Morning America: “Did she ever express that she was upset at you?”

Harry responds: “For what?”

Strahan replies: “For wanting to change your role.”

Harry says: “No. My grandmother and I had a very good relationship. It was never a surprise to anybody, least of all her.

“She knew what was going on. She knew how hard it was. She never said to me that she was angry. I think she was sad that it got to that point.”

Prince Harry says he ‘can’t ever get out’ of the royal family

Monday 9 January 2023 13:38 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Duke of Sussex has told Good Morning America he “can’t ever get out” of the royal family.

He said there had been no compromise over his half-in half-out hybrid plan to move to Canada but also still serve the Queen during the Megxit crisis in 2020.

Interviewer Michael Strahan asked: “There was no compromise with the family?”

Harry replied: “No - which was really sad because I still to this day believe that this was entirely possible.”

Strahan asked: “There are going to be people who say ‘Why don’t they either be in or get out, because if you get out there’s no hypocrisy’.”

Harry said: “I can’t ever get out and I’m incredibly aware of my position.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the life that I’ve had and continue to live.

“But there’s no version of me being ever able to get out of this. I was stunned that my family would allow security to be taken away, especially at the most vulnerable point for us.”

Asked about critics who say he has sold out his family, Harry says the only way he could protect his family was to correct mistruths, by writing the truth in one place.

“I fully accept that writing a book is feeding the beast anyway,” he adds.

Opinion: Piers Morgan has proven himself Meghan Markle’s greatest fan

Monday 9 January 2023 13:18 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Piers Morgan is on the offensive again – in every sense of the word, Katie Edwards writes.

You might not have noticed because he’s maintained such a dignified silence until now, but Piers Morgan has gone for Meghan (and now her husband, Prince Harry) like a hunting pack after bait – and it’s been just as gruesome and bloodthirsty to witness.

For reasons known only to the broadcaster and talkTV presenter, over the years he’s gone from fawning over Markle and labelling himself a “superfan” on Twitter to spewing an almost constant stream of vitriol in her direction. She’s a liar, he claims. She’s playing the victim, he reckons. She ghosted him, he says.

Prince Harry’s ITV interview achieves ‘disappointing’ ratings

The viewing figures for ITV’s Prince Harry interview have been released.

The duke’s tell-all interview with Tom Bradby, which aired last night (8 January) on ITV, was watched in the UK by 4.1 million people – around a third of the 11.1 million people who watched his and wife Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview in 2021.

The ratings performance was described as “disappointing” by US entertainment publication Deadline.

In the interview, Harry narrated controversial and startling excerpts from the book that, according to one royal biographer, “could mark the beginning of the end” of the monarchy.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may retreat for rest of the year now their story has been heard

Monday 9 January 2023 11:37 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may retreat for the rest of the year as they have both told their sides of the story, the author of a biography on the couple has said.

Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom, said the frankness of Harry’s memoir Spare is the result of a man who for all of his life “hasn’t been able to share a word of it”.

But he added there is not really much else to say and so royal watchers can expect to see a shift in the months ahead.

Speaking about Harry, Mr Scobie told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “He’s watched other people tell that story over and over again, including journalists such as myself.

“I think this is Harry finally wanting to put his voice on the historical royal record.

“Of course, that does come with some downsides for those who have been part of his journey. We heard some sort of really startling confessions and stories about members of the royal family, particularly when it comes to Camilla and her relationship with the press.

“This is really just Harry sort of pulling the curtain back on it all. We’re actually getting, I guess, the look behind palace walls that we’ve always wanted.”

Mr Scobie said Harry is clearly “very confident in the story that he’s telling” and that it has taken him a long time to get to this point.

Mr Scobie was asked if he gets the feeling from Harry and Meghan’s team that this is how they intend to continue, and he said he thinks the couple “have to be quite careful right now”, adding there has been a lot of focus on their private life recently and their brand has been “very much about drama” and a “soap opera” that has been played out publicly.

“I think we’re going to see, for the rest of this year, a couple sort of retreating from a lot of what we’ve seen over the last few months.

“They’ve both shared their sides of the story. Harry more in many, many ways, in more ways than we could have ever imagined.

“There isn’t really much else to say and so I think we will see a shift in the months ahead. That said, when it comes to talking about reconciliation, that is very difficult after the amount that he has shared in this book,” he said.

Monday 9 January 2023 11:17 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Prince Harry has denied that he and Meghan accused a member of the royal family of racism during their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duke of Sussex sat down for two broadcast interviews, with ITV and CBS, which were released on Sunday night ahead of the official publication of his ghostwritten memoir Spare, leaked extracts from which have dominated headlines.

Alongside intensely personal recollections relating to himself and his relatives, the allegations reportedly contained in the book – due on Tuesday – include a physical attack by Prince William, and his brother’s supposedly hushed-up involvement in his infamous Nazi costume debacle.

He also writes that Meghan upset Kate by saying she must have “baby brain” in the run-up to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s 2018 wedding, Kate demanded an apology and William pointed a finger at Meghan and called her “rude”.

The Duke of Sussex writes about the infamous fight between Meghan and Kate during a bridesmaids’ dress fitting for Princess Charlotte, claiming he found his wife “on the floor” in tears after the fallout.

Also in the book, the duke says that Kate reluctantly lent Meghan her lip gloss, was “taken aback” by the request to borrow it and “grimaced” when Meghan squeezed some on to her finger and applied it to her lips.

Princess of Wales celebrates her birthday on eve of PrinceHarry’s memoir

Monday 9 January 2023 10:09 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

The Princess of Wales is celebrating her 41st birthday just one day before the Duke of Sussex‘s controversial memoir hits shelves.

Kate, whose birthday is January 9, will likely mark the day in a private family way amid a period of fracture and turmoil for the royal family.

A flood of inflammatory claims have emerged from Harry’s tell-all autobiography Spare, which was leaked and also put on sale early in Spain ahead of its official release on Tuesday.

But it is not the first time Kate’s birthday has fallen in the shadow of bombshell revelations from the Sussex camp.

Harry and Meghan made the shock announcement that they would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family on January 8 2020.

Kate marked her 40th birthday last year by releasing three striking images of her dancing in Alexander McQueen dresses taken by celebrated fashion photographer Paolo Roversi.

This year, Kate’s birthday comes after intimate details about Harry’s life and family, including claims about his sister-in-law, have emerged from his new memoir.

Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace have declined to comment but the book is being seen as damaging Harry’s fragile relationship with his brother - a future king - beyond repair.

Monday 9 January 2023 09:44 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Prince Harry has opened up about his ongoing grief over the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and the ways he processed his emotions.

The Duke of Sussex spoke candidly about his mother’s passing during his 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper on Sunday 8 January, ahead of the release of his tell-all memoir Spare on Tuesday 10 January.

During the conversation, the duke revealed that he cried only once after his mother’s death - when his mother’s coffin “actually went into the ground,” and that he later turned to experimental drugs to help him deal with his emotions.

“That was the first time that I actually cried. Yeah, there was never another time,” he said.

Prince Harry says there are ‘25 versions of bridesmaids story’ about Meghan and Kate

Monday 9 January 2023 09:26 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Prince Harry says there have been “25 versions” of the story where it was reported that Meghan Markle made his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, cry.

Around the time of the Sussexes’ wedding, a widely publicised report emerged alleging that Meghan had made Kate Middleton cry over an argument over bridesmaids dresses.

Speaking in an ITV interview ahead of the release of his memoir Spare on Tuesday 10 January, the Duke of Sussex answered questions about how that story unfolded and its impact.

According to Harry’s memoir, Meghan was left in tears and Kate visited the following day to apologise.

When asked by ITV’s Tom Brady why he has written an autobiography, Prince Harry replied: “38 years. 38 years of having my story told by so many different people, with intentional spin and distortion, felt like a good time to own my story and tell it myself.”

The Duke of Sussex added that he would not have this opportunity if he was still part of the institution, and feels “grateful” to now have the freedom to do so.

Tory MP says Prince Harry’s admission of killing 25 people in Afghanistan is ‘ill-advised'

Monday 9 January 2023 09:01 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Tory MP Tobias Ellwood has suggested the Duke of Sussex‘s admission that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan could create security risks for the Invictus Games.

Mr Ellwood, a senior backbencher and chairman of the Commons Defence Committee, said the revelation in Harry’s memoir was “ill-advised”.

“I do worry that this is going to have security implications,” he told Sky News.

Speaking about the Invictus Games, he said: “One of the rare occasions that I worked with Prince Harry was in the Invictus Games in Sydney and in Toronto and so forth. Incredible effort. This was his design, this was his creation.

“And I’m now concerned that something which has been so important to veterans to help rehabilitation will now suffer because there could be security implications of him participating in that.”

‘I love her’: Prince Harry defends Lady Hussey over Palace racism row

Monday 9 January 2023 08:37 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Prince Harry has addressed the recent controversy that broke out after Lady Susan Hussey asked a Black British charity worker where she “really came from”.

Ngozi Fulani, the founder of Sistah Space, found herself at the centre of a royal racism scandal over Lady Hussey’s comments, which were made during a Buckingham Palace reception in December last year.

Queen Elizabeth II’s former lady-in-waiting and Prince William’s godmother apologised to Fulani over the remarks, which were widely criticised.

During an interview to promote his forthcoming memoir, Harry told ITV’s Tom Bradby he was “very happy” for Fulani to be invited to the palace for a reconciliatory meeting with Lady Hussey, “because [the Duchess of Sussex] Meghan and I love Susan Hussey”.

He continued: “And I also know that what she meant – she never meant any harm at all. But the response from the British press, and from people online because of the stories that they wrote was horrendous.”

Opinion: Harry and Meghan are starting to look as out of touch as the Bourbons and the Romanovs

Monday 9 January 2023 08:22 , Maryam Zakir-Hussain

Prince Harry says his family “has been briefing the press for over a decade”.

He means briefing against him, his wife and his family.

For their own selfish – even jealous – purposes, according to Harry; Charles, Camilla, William and Kate and their respective staffs have all variously been “complicit” with the British tabloid press in creating a damaging family divide, Sean O’Grady writes.

He proclaims, often, how much he loves his family, and how much he wants them back, but the “dysfunctional” family doesn’t seem to want him, or Meghan and the kids.

Quotes, leaks and planted stories attributed to Buckingham Place “sources”, says Harry, came (and still come) from his own family members.

The Duke of Sussex has said he is “not texting” his brother and described the Queen Consort as “the villain” in an incendiary interview in the US.

Speaking with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Harry said Camilla’s willingness to forge relationships with the British press made her “dangerous” and there would be “bodies left in the street because of that”.

The duke wrote in his memoir Spare that Camilla “sacrificed me on her personal PR altar”.

He told interviewer Anderson Cooper: “She was the villain, she was a third person in the marriage, she needed to rehabilitate her image.”

 (PA)

He added: “The need for her to rehabilitate her image...that made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.

“And there was open willingness on both sides to trade information and with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being Queen Consort, there was going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”

The duke writes in his memoir how he and William begged the King not to marry Camilla, and he told Cooper: “We didn’t think it was necessary. We thought it would do more harm than good.”

In his UK interview with ITV on Sunday night, the duke, however, denied that he had been “scathing” about the Queen Consort in his autobiography.

If Harry really wants his family back, he’d be smart to stop talking so much

Monday 9 January 2023 07:30 , Sravasti Dasgupta

“Oh, Prince Harry. Finally, the time has come when I feel sorry for everyone’s favourite jet-hopping, mansion-dwelling, dirty laundry-dragging royal. To be clear, this is not because I worry about the quality of his life now that he has firmly established himself across the pond in sunny Montecito. Nor is it because I’m concerned that he and Meghan might struggle to get any work done at their vast two-seater desk. Or because they’re too busy texting Beyoncé again. No. It’s because I fear that after all of this media face time, Harry is going to wind up without the one thing he wants most in the world: his family.”

“I asked my brother...’what are your plans, how are you and Kate getting up there?”’ he said.

“And then a couple of hours later all of the family members that live within the Windsor and Ascot area were jumping on a plane together, a plane with 12, 14 maybe 16 seats.”

“You are not provided on that plane?” Cooper asked him.

“I was not invited,” Harry replied.

Don’t pretend you’re not interested in what Prince Harry has to say

Monday 9 January 2023 06:00 , Sravasti Dasgupta

With Prince Harry’s new autobiography Spare set for release on Tuesday 10 January, explosive claims from the book have generated interest across press and social media.

The Harry naysayers appear to fall into two camps. There are those who are forthright in their vehement dislike of the prince, who call him a “traitor” and want him to just shut up.

And then there are others who also wish he wasn’t generating so many news stories and column inches – because they claim they’re not interested in what he has to say.

He told Anderson Cooper that he turned to alcohol to cope, and later, to therapy and experimental drugs, such as “psychedelics, Ayahuasca, psilocybin, mushrooms”.

He said: “I would never recommend people to do this recreationally. But doing it with the right people if you are suffering from a huge amount of loss, grief or trauma, then these things have a way of working as a medicine.”

Prince Harry also alleged during the interview, and in his upcoming memoir, that his stepmother “started a campaign in the British press to pave the way for a marriage” and that Camilla was “dangerous”.

When asked by Cooper how Camilla was “dangerous,” the Duke of Sussex said: “Because of the need for her to rehabilitate her image.”

According to Harry, who was asked by Cooper to elaborate on the claim, the need for rehibilitation in the eyes of the public and the media meant was “dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press”.

“There was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that,” he said.

Monday 9 January 2023 03:05 , Chelsea Ritschel

The Duke of Sussex’s candid revelations also included his claim that he and his brother Prince William asked their father not to marry Camilla, Queen Consort, because they thought it would do “more harm than good”.

“We didn’t think it was necessary. We thought that it was gonna cause more harm than good and that if he was now with his person, that, surely that’s enough. Why go that far when you don’t necessarily need to?” he said.

However, according to Harry, he and his brother wanted their father to be “happy”.

“And we saw how happy he was with her. So, at the time, it was: ‘Okay,’” he said.

According to Prince Harry, for “many years,” he refused to believe that his mother Diana had died, with the duke telling Anderson Cooper that his brother Prince William shared similar thoughts.

Rather, the duke told Cooper the brothers were convinced that the late princess had faked her death, and that she would reach out to her sons once it was so safe to do so, so that they would be able to join her.

During Prince Harry’s interview with Anderson Cooper, he also made a number of explosive claims about his stepmother, Camilla, Queen Consort.

In the 60 Minutes interview, Harry described Camilla as “the villain,” while noting that she had needed to “rehabilitate her image” after Diana famously described her as being the “third person” in her and Charles’ marriage.

While reflecting on his grandmother’s death in September, Prince Harry says he reached out to his brother about his plans for travelling to Balmoral. At the time, Prince Harry and Meghan were in the UK for a charity event.

According to Harry, despite their being room on the plane, he was not invited to join his brother and other members of the royal family.

“I asked my brother, I said: ‘What are your plans? How are you and Kate getting up there?’ And then, a couple of hours later, you know, all of the fam, family members that live within the Windsor and Ascot area were jumping on a plane together, a plane with 12, 14, maybe 16 seats,” he says.

However, according to Prince Harry, he does not currently speak with his brother or his father.

The Duke of Sussex confirmed that he is not in contact with his family members while speaking to Anderson Cooper during Sunday night’s interview.

“Do you speak to William now? Do you text?” Cooper asked Harry, to which the duke replied: “Currently, no. But I look forward to-- I look forward to us being able to find peace.”

As for how long it has been since the brothers spoke, Harry said “a while”.

Cooper then asked whether Harry is in contact with his father, King Charles III, with the duke revealing that they also haven’t spoken for “a while”.

“We haven’t spoken for quite a while. No, not recently,” he said.

Monday 9 January 2023 01:11 , Chelsea Ritschel

Despite the Duke of Sussex’s criticisms of his family members, he says that all he wants is to reconcile with his family.

“At the heart of it, there is a family, without question. And I really look forward to having that family element back. I look forward to having a relationship with brother, I look forward to having a relationship with my father, and other members of my family,” Harry says. “That’s all I’ve ever asked for.”

Monday 9 January 2023 01:08 , Chelsea Ritschel

According to Prince Harry, after his grandmother the Queen died, he spent “some time with her, alone” in her bedroom at Balmoral.

The duke previously revealed that he did not arrive until after Queen Elizabeth’s death, and that he found out she had passed away from the BBC’s website.

Prince Harry tells Anderson Cooper that Jeremy Clarkson’s comments about Meghan Markle in The Sun did not “surprise” him. However, he says they did “shock” him.

The duke tells Anderson Cooper of the moment that Prince William “snapped” during their fight in Nottingham Cottage. According to Prince Harry, he wouldn’t have told Meghan about the fight had she not seen the marks from falling.

Monday 9 January 2023 01:02 , Chelsea Ritschel

Prince Harry has also told Anderson Cooper that his wife Meghan dealt with similar treatment to Kate Middleton or Camilla at the hands of the press. However, according to Harry, the difference was the “bigoted” nature of the treatment of Meghan.

Monday 9 January 2023 01:00 , Chelsea Ritschel

According to Prince Harry, in addition to therapy, he also began trying experimental drugs, which he claimed have a way of “working as a medicine”.

He says these illegal substances helped him, as they were able to “clear the windscreen, the misery of loss, this idea I had in my head that I needed to cry to prove to my mother that I missed her, when in fact, all she wanted was for me to be happy”.

Monday 9 January 2023 00:58 , Chelsea Ritschel

As Prince Harry reflects on the death of his mother, and the “war” it started in him at age 12, he tells Anderson Cooper that he was only able to cry once, when Diana was buried.

According to the Duke of Sussex, his inability to cry haunted him, as he felt a “weight on his chest” and was “constantly trying to find a way to cry”.

In an effort to make himself cry, Harry tells Cooper that he watched videos of his mother, “hoping to cry”.

Monday 9 January 2023 00:49 , Chelsea Ritschel

In his candid 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper, Prince Harry reiterates his disbelief over his mother Princess Diana’s death, and his longtime belief that the late Princess of Wales was actually alive somewhere.

According to Prince Harry, from looking at photos of the car crash that killed his mother, he believes the last thing Princess Diana saw were the lights of paparazzi cameras.

During his ITV interview, Prince Harry denied Tom Bradby’s claim that he or Meghan ever described the royal family as “racist” during their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Rather, according to Harry, it was the “British press [that] said that”.

The claim prompted Bradby to delve into the couple’s claims that conversations among the royal family about the colour of Archie’s skin took place, with Harry confirming “there was concern about his skin colour”.

In response, Bradby asked: “Right, wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?” to which Harry suggested that it was not racism, but rather “unconscious bias”.

The duke’s interview with Tom Bradby included a number of explosive moments, such as Harry’s comments about his stepmother Camilla, the Queen Consort. According to Harry, he and his brother William begged their father not to marry Camilla.

However, the duke defended the comments on the basis that none of his comments about any of his family members in his upcoming memor Spare were “scathing”.

“There’s no part of any of the things that I’ve said that are scathing towards any member of my family, especially not my stepmother.”

The Duke of Sussex’s interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby comes just hours before Prince Harry’s interview with Anderson Cooper is set to air.

The duke is expected to cover similar topics during the CBS interview, with a trailer showing Harry criticising the press over the treatment of Meghan Markle.

“What Meghan had to go through, in some part, was similar to what Kate and Camilla went through,” Harry said in a trailer released Thursday, before noting that they were “very different circumstances” due to the “race element”.

“But then you add in the race element, which was what the press - the British press 0 jumped on straightaway. I went into this incredibly naive,” he continues. “I had no idea the British press were so bigoted.

“How I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan.”
