Prince William and wife Kate Middleton greeted fans as they arrived at the Boston Celtics game on Wednesday, November 30, on the first day of their US visit.

Video taken by Melanie DiVasta shows the royal couple shaking hands with courtside watchers as they walked onto the court with Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, governor-elect Maura Healey, and Emilia Fazzalari, wife of Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck.

Social media users posted videos of crowds cheering, booing, and chanting as William and Kate appeared on the giant screen.

The trip marked the royals’ first US visit in eight years. Upon landing at Logan Airport, William released a statement on the couple’s official Twitter account that thanked Massachusetts for its hospitality, stating that they were “delighted” to be back in the US.

They were in town to award William’s Earthshot Prizes, which give entrepreneurs hefty grants for the "most ingenious solutions to repair and regenerate our planet.” Credit: Melanie DiVasta via Storyful
