Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Frolicking on a Family Holiday in Mustique

It’s said they celebrated Prince George’s birthday in Mustique, a tropical island in the Caribbean.

It’s late July, which means summer vacation season is in full swing—including for the royal family.

Multiple reports say that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently enjoying a holiday with their children. And where did they jet off to? Mustique, a tranquil getaway in the Caribbean.

The location has special meaning for the couple. Long before she married Prince William, Kate Middleton regularly visited the island with her family. In fact, their journey to Mustique—now with kids in tow—has become something of an annual tradition: The past two years they’ve gone to celebrate the birthday of their eldest son, Prince George. In 2018, William and Kate enjoyed a night out at Basil’s Bar, the famed watering hole on the island, where they partied alongside Mick Jagger, who owns a home there. In 2013 and again in 2015, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a babymoon at the Caribbean locale.

There are many reasons why Mustique attracts a glamorous crowd, among them its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and relative obscurity (unlike its flashier neighbor, St. Barts, there’s not much of a yacht scene). It’s also said the island can enforce a no-fly zone, allowing its visitors to enjoy life away from the paparazzi.

The Cambridges aren’t the only British royals to have a fondness for Mustique. Princess Margaret was gifted a 10-acre parcel of land there as a wedding present. She built a stunning villa, designed by Oliver Messel, which she named Les Jolies Eaux. (The property is now available for anyone to rent.)
