Prince William and Kate Middleton are expanding their household this year — household staff, that is. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are looking for a housekeeper at Kensington Palace, but there is a strict list of requirements for the royal position.
In addition to seeking someone “experienced,” the senior royals are looking for a team player who can “take pride” in their work. And there’s also one big piece of the puzzle that goes without saying: “maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion at all times is paramount.”
It’s no surprise there’s a no-gossiping rule for the Royal Family, especially considering all of the drama of the last two years (yes, we’re talking about the very public feud between the Cambridge and Sussex households. The heat score on the brothers’ fighting has been well-documented in two books this year — Finding Freedom and Battle of Brothers: The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult.
“Both brothers have been damaged by their upbringings; both have reacted by finding different solutions,” Battle of Brothers author Robert Lacey told People recently. “There is so much pain and trauma in this story, going right back to the beginning.”
Given that, it certainly makes sense that the last thing Prince William and Kate would want is more of the spotlight brought upon the family fracture, which looks like it ma be seeing the frosty relations thaw. A discreet staff member is going to be key to help keep any royal scoop out of the press.
According to The Mirror, the live-in position has a starting salary of £19,140 (approximately $25,000) and offers the opportunity to travel with the royals. Applications are still being accepted — so who’s ready to pick up and move?
