Princess Beatrice gave us all the gift of another royal wedding to look forward to, when she announced her engagement to Italian property developer boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, in September. While official details are currently sparse, we do know the newly-engaged couple will be getting married in 2020.

But according to reports from the Mail on Sunday, Beatrice has been busy planning her wedding, and she wants it to be completely different from her sister, Princess Eugenie's. Apparently, the 31-year-old isn't interested in a traditionally royal wedding, shunning the carriage procession and the favoured venues.

A friend of Beatrice’s reportedly told the newspaper: "Beatrice has said she and Edo are looking at alternative venues because she wants something different. The wedding will not be in Italy and from what they are saying it won’t be in St George’s Chapel, Windsor, either.

"There have been three big Royal weddings there in the past year or so and I’m not sure that’s what Bea wants. Edo has a child, there’s the situation with his ex, and Beatrice might just feel something more low-key might be more fitting," said the source.

The "sitatuation" with Edoardo's ex is this: he was previously engaged to architect Dara Huang, who he has a two-year-old son, Christopher Woolf (known as Wolfie) with. The couple split early last year - several months before Beatrice and Edoardo are thought to have got together at Eugenie's wedding.

There was previous talk of Beatrice and Edorardo getting married in his home country of Italy, which would likely mean Queen Elizabeth would be unable to attend. But it seems, from what the insider is saying, that's no longer an option.

Princess Eugenie opted for all the pomp and ceremony that comes with a traditionally royal wedding when she married Jack Brooksbank a year ago. The couple held their nuptials at St George's Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle - the same location as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding just a few months before - and the occasion was broadcast on ITV.

But Beatrice's special day may well be very different, possibly being kept private. Being 9th in line to the throne, there is no obligation for the Princess to marry in any particular way. When she got engaged to Edoardo, there was no need for her to obtain her grandmother, the Queen's permission.

The Succession of The Crown Act states that the first six heirs to the throne need to get their choice of spouse approved by the Queen - meaning that Prince William and Prince Harry were both bound by the rule. When they're older, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will also have to seek permission before getting married.

But Beatrice is free from those restrictions, and by the sounds of it, she's making the most of it.
