Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro eyes Cancer Center expansion. Here's what we know

Princeton Healthcare System will seek approval next week to build a six-floor parking garage at Princeton Medical Center’s Plainsboro campus, to accommodate future expansion plans.

Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking preliminary and final major site plan approval to construct the 1,161-space parking garage on the hospital’s 1 Plainsboro Road campus. It also is proposing to construct a temporary lot with 628 parking spaces on an undeveloped portion of the campus, according to public documents.

"Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking approval for a six-level garage to provide additional parking capacity and accommodate future expansion of clinical care on the Princeton Medical Center (PMC) campus in Plainsboro, including a potential cancer center, which is in the preliminary planning stages," a spokesperson for Penn Medicine Princeton Health said in a statement. "Princeton Health also plans to construct a temporary surface parking lot along Punia Boulevard on the hospital campus to provide additional parking during construction."

The plan for an addition to the hospital’s cancer center requires separate approval. The parking garage is a permitted use in the township zone.

Planned garage-related site improvements include expanding the hospital’s drop-off area and landscape, roadway and walkway improvements, public documents say.

The temporary lot would have two parking areas for hospital staff and contractors. The westside paved lot with 304 spaces would be constructed first, and the eastside lot of 324 parking spaces, to be used for a shorter duration, would be constructed of crushed stone, according to public documents.

A public hearing on the application is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 21 in the courtroom of the Plainsboro Township Municipal Building.
