Principal, assistant principal suspended at Fayetteville's Terry Sanford High School

The principal and assistant principal at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville were placed on paid suspension this month while an investigation is underway, but the school district has not said what is being investigated.

Principal John "Royvell" Godbolt and Assistant Principal Quantisha Spencer were suspended earlier this month, Cumberland County Schools spokesman Lindsay Whitley confirmed Friday morning.

"CCS takes all allegations of this nature seriously and conducts thorough investigations to determine the facts of the situation. Both parties have been suspended with pay, effective May 1, pending the outcome of the district's investigation," Whitley said in a statement.

When asked what the nature of the allegation was, Whitley said he was unable by law to provide further details.

According to reporting by WRAL, the allegations center around accusations of personal misconduct in the school and on campus.

Godbolt became principal of Terry Sanford High School in March, according to a news release announcing his appointment. He previously served as assistant principal and athletic director at the school "and has been a premier professional of CCS since 2005," the release said.

Whitley said Spencer began with the school system in 2010 as a third-grade teacher at Lucile Souders Elementary School. Before becoming assistant principal at Terry Sanford, she served as a principal intern at Mac Williams Middle School. The internship program is a step toward becoming a licensed principal or assistant principal, Whitley said.

"Rhonda Hill, a retired educator with a wealth of experience in school leadership, has agreed to serve as the interim principal at the school until further notice. She will be assisted by Tom Hatch, the former principal of Terry Sanford High School, as well as other district administrators," Whitley said.

According to Whitley, Spencer's yearly salary as assistant principal at Terry Sanford High School is $71,413. Godbolt's salary as principal is $108,931.
