New principal named at Cameo Elementary in Clovis

Apr. 22—A new principal has been named to Clovis' Cameo Elementary School.

Shelly Smith, a longtime educator with Clovis Municipal Schools, has been selected for and accepted the position of Cameo Elementary Principal according to a news release from Clovis Municipal Schools public relations department.

Hired in 2006 as a teacher at Parkview Elementary, Smith has spent her career of 17 years with Clovis Schools.

In 2007 she moved to a teaching position at the Arts Academy at Bella Vista, where she remained, teaching fourth and fifth grades until 2019.

For the 2019-20 school year, Smith transitioned to teaching middle school where she taught math at Marshall Middle School until she was selected for her current position as a "teacher on special assignment" at Cameo Elementary in 2021.

A Clovis High School graduate, Smith came to Clovis as an Air Force dependent. Smith is also an alumnus of Wayland Baptist University, from which she holds a master's degree in education, specializing in Reading, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

Smith will assume her role as Cameo's principal for the 2023-2024 school year. The vacancy was created by the transfer of current Cameo principal Nicole Hahn to Barry Elementary School.
