Printing error leads to delay in Holmes County property reappraisal process

News in Brief

MILLERSBURG — Bulk mailing issues and a printer's error have forced the Holmes County Auditor's Office to extend the deadline for informal review through Sept. 30 for the state-mandated 2022 reappraisal of Holmes County properties.

Auditor Jackie McKee said in a news release that her office performed accurate proof-reading but many of the revaluation notification letters went out without the proper parcel information.

"If folks received a letter with no details, a new one will be coming," McKee said.

The mistakes have been corrected, and a revised letter will be going out to property owners on Monday.

The 2022 valuations will be available for review at the Holmes County Auditor’s office at 75 E. Clinton, Suite 107, Millersburg, through Sept. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 2022 values will also be available online at www.holmescountyauditor.org.

For additional information call the auditor’s office at 330-674-1896 or email: realestatedept@co.holmes.oh.us.

McKee said state Law requires the county auditor to conduct an inspection of all land and buildings every six years. The purpose is to adjust and equalize property values to reflect the state of the local real estate market. It also ensures that the facts listed in the data base are accurate and current.

The auditor’s office has no control over the tax rate, which is established by the voting public. Although property value will have increased, taxes will not necessarily rise by the same percentage. The auditor’s office will not receive tax rates until late December, so at this time taxes will not be able to be determined.
