Prison inmate serving Brown County sentence dies at state penitentiary

A prison inmate serving a sentence out of Brown County has died.

Jordan Ward, 30, was found unresponsive in his cell overnight Wednesday at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, according to a news release from the Department of Corrections.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and his death is under investigation, per the release.

Ward was serving sentences for first-degree burglary, accessory to a crime and possession of a controlled substance.
