Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Are Producing a New Show Inspired by Their Wedding

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s wedding will live on. On December 11, the actress took to Instagram to share that she is creating an unscripted series about Sangeets, an Indian pre-wedding tradition, with her husband.

“At our wedding, both of our families came together to perform a Sangeet,” Chopra wrote. “A performance (dance-off competition style) that celebrated our love story, one of the most unforgettable moments from a very special time in our lives. [Nick] and I are excited to announce a new, currently untitled project (we’re still working on it!!) that celebrates the love and magic that comes from friends and family that join together through music and dance the night before a wedding. It’s our #SangeetProject.”

The series will come together in partnership with Amazon. According to Variety, the series will follow multiple couples as they prepare for their Sangeet alongside their wedding party, family, friends, choreographers and creative directors. “The Sangeet is an all-out dance party,” Shawna Gohel, Founder and CEO of Maharani Weddings, previously told The Knot. “Traditionally, both sides of the family perform dances and song for the couple as a gift or a token to express appreciation.” Casting for the project is currently underway, and filming is set to take place in 2020.

Chopra, who just celebrated her one-year wedding anniversary with Jonas on December 1, further explained how their own wedding inspired the upcoming project. “We want to share this amazing experience with couples set to be wed,” she shared.

The couple famously hosted several lavish wedding ceremonies and receptions in 2018 to honor their respective cultures. One day after their wedding, Chopra opened up about their Sangeet on Instagram. “It all began as a fierce song and dance competition between the families but ended, as always, as a huge celebration of love,” the Quantico actress wrote. “Nick and I were looking forward to the Sangeet,” she added. “And what a performance it was. Each family telling our stories through song and dance, filled with lots of laughter and love.”

The duo’s extravagant wedding festivities came after just two months of dating. After making their relationship Instagram-official in June 2018, the Jealous singer proposed on Chopra’s birthday in July 2018.
