The Pro-Dex (NASDAQ:PDEX) Share Price Is Up 732% And Shareholders Are Delighted

Some Pro-Dex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDEX) shareholders are probably rather concerned to see the share price fall 32% over the last three months. But that doesn't undermine the fantastic longer term performance (measured over five years). In fact, during that period, the share price climbed 732%. Impressive! Arguably, the recent fall is to be expected after such a strong rise. Only time will tell if there is still too much optimism currently reflected in the share price.

Anyone who held for that rewarding ride would probably be keen to talk about it.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.

During five years of share price growth, Pro-Dex achieved compound earnings per share (EPS) growth of 72% per year. The EPS growth is more impressive than the yearly share price gain of 53% over the same period. So one could conclude that the broader market has become more cautious towards the stock.

A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that Pro-Dex shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 47% over the last year. Having said that, the five-year TSR of 53% a year, is even better. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
