Pro Football HOF, Black College Football HOF, jobs groups partner on job fair

CANTON – The Pro Football Hall of Fame is offering an opportunity to take a tour of the museum and score a new job this week.

The Score the Job! Career Fair is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nash Family Event & Conference Center at the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame have partnered with the Stark Tuscarawas Workforce Development Board, OhioMeansJobs of Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, Strengthening Stark and Evoqua Water Technologies to organize the job fair.

Adrian Allison, chief relationship officer at the Hall of Fame, said the event is another way the Black College Football Hall of Fame is using its platform for community betterment.

The Black College Football Hall of Fame campaigns for unity, works to give back to the community and promotes and encourages education, Allison said. The job fair fits those goals.

"This is an opportunity for us to use the platform to do good in the community," he said.

The job fair is being promoted within a 50-mile radius of Stark County by each of the participating organizations. A goal is to attract people to the area by offering them a chance at a good job opportunity.

Score the Job! Career Fair is an extension of the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic that was hosted Labor Day weekend. In addition to a football game matching two historically Black colleges, the weekend includes a college fair and other programs.

Allison said plans are to make Score the Job! Career Fair an annual event that is connected to the Black College Football Hall of Fame, but held at a time separate from the annual Labor Day weekend activities.

Planning for Score the Job! Career Fair started early this year and Allison is thankful for the effort by local organizations — as well as the participating employers ― to create the event.

"We couldn't do it without them," he said

Job seekers can expect to find opportunities for jobs where demand for workers is high.

The job fair lineup features 21 area companies looking for employees and offering jobs with a starting wage of $16.50 per hour or higher. Participants are in high-demand industries that are promoting growth opportunities and striving to support and engage a diverse workforce.

Companies and organizations participating are: Aultman Hospital; CareSource; Case Farms; city of Canton; Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital; Dover Chemical; Evoqua Water Technologies; First Commonwealth Bank; FirstEnergy; Fresh Mark; Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Co.; Hendrickson; Kenan Advantage Group; Knight Materials; MAC Trailer; MK Morse; Ohio Gratings; PNC Bank; Powell Electrical Systems; Sonoco Metal Packaging; and Tower Industries.

Attending the job fair will give job seekers special access to visit the Hall of Fame and store. A food truck provided by Destefano's Concessions will be on site for the event

Job seekers also will have access to community resources during the career fair.

Anyone who needs assistance before the event to update or create a resume can visit OhioMeansJobs offices in Stark or Tuscarawas counties.
