Pro-Kremlin icon Shaman’s song ‘I am Russian’ becomes symbol of nationalist ideology in Russia

Russian universities are delving into the “creativity” of pro-Kremlin singer Yaroslav Dronov, known as Shaman, signaling a concerning deterioration in higher education standards, as revealed by the Telegram channel “Ostorozhno, novosti,” which shared a video from one of these classes.

In fact, a faculty member at the South Ural State Humanitarian Pedagogical University in Chelyabinsk chose to scrutinize the propagandist “hit” by Shaman, titled “I am Russian,” which has already emerged as a symbol of nationalist ideology in the Russian Federation.

During a seminar within the “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” course, students were tasked with interpreting the significance of the lyrics, dissecting phrases like “to the whole world in spite” and “I’m going to the end,” and identifying key elements of the song that, aside from the phrase “I am Russian,” resonated as genuinely impactful for them.

At the end of the class, the students re-listened to the composition, and the teacher summarized that its genius lies precisely in its simplicity.

Whether such “scientific inquiries” will stop the “brain drain” from Russia remains to be seen, but some conclusions on this matter can already be drawn.

Remarkably, a “scientific” article authored by Russian State Duma deputy Igor Ananskykh and featured in the St. Petersburg journal “Juridical Science: History and Modernity” is indicative in this context, discussing “beastmen” crafted from “earthly dust using space genetic technologies,”who allegedly, through the mechanisms of “democracy and oral sex,” masterminded the “genocide of Russians.”
