Probation granted Oklahoma man in Monett assault case

Feb. 15—MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — A Ponca City, Oklahoma, man pleaded guilty this week to an assault of his girlfriend's father and a related charge of driving while intoxicated, and received suspended sentences and probation.

Christopher L.A. Jackson, 23, changed his plea to guilty Wednesday in Lawrence County Circuit Court on a felony count of first-degree assault and a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated in a plea deal dismissing charges of unlawful use of a weapon and property damage.

His plea bargain called for a suspended imposition of sentence on the assault conviction and a suspended six-month jail term for drunken driving. Circuit Judge David Cole accepted the plea arrangement and placed Jackson on supervised probation for five years with a requirement that he complete 200 hours of community service.

The convictions stem from an incident June 2, 2022, when the defendant arrived at the Monett residence of his fiancee's family in an intoxicated state and told her father, Allen Fox, that he was going to "whip" him, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

After Fox called police to report the threat, Jackson purportedly returned in his truck at a high speed and rammed Fox's truck. The affidavit alleged that he then backed into the truck, attempting to hit Fox in the process.

As Fox called 911 to report what he'd done upon his return, Jackson came at him with a shotgun, warning that he had "a bullet for him," according to the affidavit.

Monett police subsequently located Jackson at a business north of Monett and took him into custody. The affidavit states that his blood alcohol level tested at 0.158%, or almost twice the legal limit for driving in Missouri.
