Probation for teen who pleads guilty in mugging

Oct. 18—URBANA — A Champaign teen who admitted his role in a mugging that happened near campus in August has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Isaiah Rhoads-Linzy, 18, who listed an address in the 700 block of South Duncan Road, pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbery, admitting to Judge Randy Rosenbaum that at about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 22, he took a backpack from a man who was walking near Springfield Avenue and Wright Street after another young man with him hit the victim in the back with a tree branch.

The victim was not seriously hurt and refused medical treatment. He knew one of the three offenders, which eventually led police to Rhoads-Linzy, the only adult in the group.

In exchange for Rhoads-Linzy's guilty plea to robbery, Assistant State's Attorney Chris McCallum dismissed other charges of aggravated battery and mob action.

Rhoads-Linzy was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
