Big Oil wins, and we lose
There was an article Sunday about the profits of six major oil companies. Collectively, they jumped from $11.9 billion in the first quarter of 2021 to $31.1 billion in the same period for 2022.
It appears the second quarter will see even better returns. Global demand for oil increased with the easing of the pandemic, and supply dropped with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
I get it — we live in a capitalistic system, and supply and demand set the prices. Still, would it be too much to ask that the oil companies be just a little less greedy?
It's amazing to see how quickly the price of gas goes up when the price of a barrel of oil increases. Somehow, decreases in oil prices take much longer to implement at the pump. The oil companies couldn’t be gaming the system, could they?

Calvert has failed, so it's time for new leadership
We have an amazing opportunity to elect Will Rollins to Congress. He is a strong defender of women’s rights and LGBTQ rights. He will work to support veterans and to protect our democracy. Rollins is a former federal prosecutor who is running to bring accountability back to Washington.
His opponent, Ken Calvert, voted against 1) lowering the price of insulin, 2) the bipartisan infrastructure bill and 3) protecting veterans who were victims of toxic chemical and burn pits. And he has consistently voted against any legislation to improve the lives of the LGBTQ community. Calvert is a 30-year entrenched incumbent who was recently endorsed by Donald Trump.
It is time for new leadership. Please join our household and vote, both in the June primary and in November's general election, to elect Will Rollins. He will help end toxic political divisions that threaten our democracy, so that we can start solving problems together. To learn more, go to WillRollinsForCongress.com.
