Program Lets Kids Trade Halloween Candy for Cash, Then Sends the Sweets to Our Troops

If the thing that scares you most about Halloween is the sheer volume of candy your kids collect, we have good news for you.

Now in its 14th year, the Halloween Candy Buy Back program lets kids across the country trade in their troves of candy for cash by bringing their treats to participating dentists or businesses. In turn those donated treats are added to care packages for our troops.

Less cavities, a little bit of pocket money, and happy service members. Sounds like a win-win for all involved… dentists included!

According to the program’s website, dental offices generally pay kids $1 per pound for the candy with a five-pound limit. The sweets are then shipped off to either Move America Forward or Operation Shoebox. These organizations sort all the goodies, pack the boxes, and send them to our troops abroad. Hundreds of tons of candy have reportedly been collected over the years.

That’s out of the sticky hands of youngsters and into the brave hands of those who deserve a little something extra this Halloween.
