Program to train veterans for agriculture careers receives $750K from federal government

FLAGSTAFF — Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced nearly $750,000 in funding is headed to a Flagstaff program that helps train veterans interested in pursuing careers in agriculture.

Painted Desert Demonstration Projects Inc. provides hands-on training with 33 classes ranging from horticulture to personal finance, according to a statement from Sinema's office.

“We’re proud to announce critical support for Flagstaff’s training program that will empower Arizona veterans to build successful careers in agriculture by helping build meaningful relationships and connections with other Arizona farmers and veterans,” Sinema said.

There are more than 7,000 veterans across Coconino County, with nearly half living in Flagstaff, according to the most recent census data.
