SOMERSET — Top employers coming into 2024 include healthcare, manufacturing, mining and retail, according to the state Department of Labor & Industry.

While government entities topped the list and held many of the top 50 employer spots in Somerset County since 2023, state government and a tourism-related business (VR US Holdings) are the top two. Meanwhile, many of the other top employers include local school districts, the county and manufacturers.

Since 2022, the county's top 10 employers changed slightly. Somerset Trust moved back into the top 10, while the Somerset Area School District dropped from No. 10 to No. 11.

The county's top industry is agriculture, followed by forestry, fishing and hunting, mining, quarrying, oil and gas, utilities, construction and manufacturing, according to the labor department.
