Project School Tools sets date for Back to School Bash

CHILLICOTHE — The Project School Tools committee will once again be hosting its annual Back to School Bash. This event helps provide school-age children with the materials they will need to succeed in the upcoming school year. The bash will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Mt. Logan Community Center. In previous years the event would be held at the Salvation Army but this new location will allow more room for activities and resources.

“For several years we’ve discussed moving the event somewhere with more room for the backpack giveaway area, outdoor activities and parking," said co-coordinator Traci Harris of the Ross County Health District. "The Salvation Army has graciously allowed us to set up at the church for quite some time, but we have outgrown the space.”

Co-coordinator Tabitha Muse, of Chillicothe City Schools, looks forward to this event every year and has been the driving force behind this year’s event. She wasted no time working on the 2022 giveaway, starting soon after last year's event. Muse has given the event a social media presence, taken care of behind-the-scenes work and is working on getting the event a non-profit status.

“I love seeing all the kiddos with their new book bags and supplies. Our community really steps up for this event and along with the supplies, students also get free haircuts, giveaways, resources, free food and some end of summer fun," said Muse. "This year we are planning for bounce houses along with other outdoor activities.”

The committee is hoping for a large turnout this year and is packing over 1,000 grade-appropriate backpacks with supplies. Whether it be holding a donation drive or donating money the committee appreciates all the help they received from the community.

“We have so many groups and individuals to thank for making this happen,” said Muse.

Parents are asked to bring identification, verification of children in the household and proof of need such as a Medicaid card if possible. For more information please email ProjectSchoolToolsofRossCounty@gmail.com
