Project Share raises $14,000 for Salvation Army

Jan. 7—The City of Thomasville and Thomasville Utilities raised $14,000 in a partnership with the Salvation Army through Project Share during 2022.

Tara Pearson, Director of Customer Service, said that Project Share was a chance for neighbors to help each other with their monthly expenses by contributing additional funds on top of their monthly bills.

"What Project Share is, is basically a way that our neighbors can help each other by donating or participating in a small contribution toward their monthly bill, whether it's $1 or $25," Person said.

Entirely optional, Pearson said that to get involved, all that interested Thomasville locals have to do is go onto the City of Thomasville website and find Project Share under their customer service section, before providing the required information and authorization.

"You can fill out a simple form online by visiting our website and searching customer service in the search box, and you can click on the link 'Project Share,'" she said. "You put in the name and the address, the account number, along with your signature agreeing and authorizing that contribution each month to come out of your bill to go toward your neighbors' bills. Once you get that submitted, we'll get it set up for you."

In partnering with Salvation Army, Pearson said that the funds raised throughout the year would be provided to their partner, who would then use them to help pay for utilities, housing and other monthly expenses like prescription medicine.

"So, it is in partnership with Salvation Army just to add a charitable donation from their monthly bills to help their neighbors, the collective funds will be provided to them, to help the community in need," Pearson said. "They'll help aid and pay utilities, housing, prescription medication, things like that."

Having begun in 2007, Project Share has raised nearly $141,000 since it began, according to Pearson.

"So, for 2022, our contribution totaled just shy of 14 grand," Pearson said. "The program began in 2007, so it's been about for a while now, and those years combined, that is just shy of 141 grand."

Pearson said that she hopes for more involvement from the community in 2023, so that they can have another successful year of Project Share.
