Project submissions being accepted for UWLC annual Day of Caring

Jun. 15—After two years of hosting a mini-event due to the pandemic, United Way of Lake County is once again hosting its full Day of Caring June 23.

Along with seeking volunteers, the organization is also accepting projects from nonprofit agencies in need of assistance.

Each spring/summer, UWLC coordinates the annual Day of Caring — in its 30th year — by connecting nonprofit, civic and community projects with volunteers to make a meaningful impact throughout Lake County.

According to UWLC, the efforts save agencies thousands of dollars in labor, as community volunteers work on a variety of projects, including indoor and outdoor painting, window washing, weeding, trimming, gardening, mulch spreading, flower bed edging, planting and general yard cleanup.

Projects also include hosting socials for groups of seniors and children, the organization confirmed. Completion times vary ranging from several hours to a half or a full day.

Day of Caring also aims to mobilize the collective power of volunteers to make a meaningful impact throughout the Lake County community.

"In addition to serving as a great way to give back, many businesses and organizations encourage groups of employees to participate for the team building and camaraderie the day provides," said Tami Lewis, UWLC director of marketing and communications.

"We look forward to bringing our full Day of Caring back this year and hope to see a lot of project submissions for those who volunteer to take on."

Over the last 29 years, UWLC has recruited and paired more than 16,100 volunteers with over 1,400 community projects.
