Promise Fund of Florida: Major donors dinner honors the deep pockets and giving hearts

The "thank yous" filled the air as the Promise Fund of Florida honored the men and women who fuel the mission at its annual Major Donors Dinner.

The event took place March 28 at Club Colette.

Sherry Endelson, Paulette Koch and Diane Sculley were chairwomen for the evening, which began with courtyard cocktails, conversation and, it being the end of March, most of the latter was about summer destinations and making plans to meet up.

Ken Endelson and John Sculley were chairmen.

After drinks, guests moved to the dining room for a welcome by emcee Olga Villaverde, and remarks from board chairman David Brodsky, who led a toast in memory of Promise Fund supporters J. Ira Harris and Mike Shevell.

The evening continued with dinner and the presentation by Club Colette owner Dan Ponton of the Daniel E. Ponton Excellence in Community Leadership Award to Mayor Danielle Moore, and her mother, former mayor, Lesly Smith.

Promise Fund co-founder Nancy Brinker announced that the Global Ambassador Leadership Award recipient was Hologic’s CEO Steve MacMillen, who was unable to attend. Fred Walker, Hologic’s vice president of worldwide marketing, accepted the award.

Other speakers included Dr. Michael Zinner of Miami Cancer Institute and Karen Patti, Promise Fund's chief operating officer, who ended the night by announcing that the fundraising year had yielded $5.5 million, putting it two years ahead of goal.

"With the help of like-minded, dedicated community members," Patti said, "this year the Promise Fund connected 16,000 under-resourced women to cancer screenings and wraparound support.”

In case you've lost count, that's six speakers. Or maybe seven; we can't remember. After five they all sound alike.

More than 130 people attended.
