We are beyond proud to share with you this week that Tallahassee's own Proof Brewing Company was featured on the NBC News recently for being one of 600 breweries worldwide to take part in the global initiative "Brew For Ukraine."

The initiative was started to help raise money for humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine, which continues to be involved in an ongoing war with Russia.

The NBC News reported that more than $1 million has been raised as part of the effort, which was started when Ukraine's Pravda Brewery had to cease production of its beer at the start of the war and begin making Molotov cocktails. instead to help citizens fight the Russian army.

"Proof has already raised and donated $5,000 through its initial can sales - and it has even more beer coming on tap soon, meaning they'll be cutting a second donation check at a later date as well."

Pravda Brewery announced their "Brew For Ukraine: Victory Beer Series" on their website on March 5, releasing the recipes and graphics for five of their beers — Putin Huylo, a dry hopped strong ale (with a name the pokes fun at Russian president Vladimir Putin); Syla, a Belgian tripel; Red Eyes, an American red ale; Frau Ribbentrop, a Belgian witbier; and From San to Don, a Ukrainian imperial stout — and encouraging breweries around the world to make them on their behalf and donate the money to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Proof jumped at the chance right away to help out, becoming one of only three breweries in Florida to take part. They chose to brew "From San To Don" and released it a month ago, and it sold out FAST.

Congrats on this global recognition for your efforts, Proof. So proud!

Southern Fields gearing up for 2-year anniversary

Our friends at Southern Fields Brewing in Campbellton (about 70 miles west of Tallahassee) are getting ready to celebrate their 2-year anniversary on Saturday, June 11.

And they're bringing in a Grammy award-winning artist to help them do it!

Singer/songwriter Kendell Marvel will be in the house at 8:30 p.m. on June 11. Marvel has been involved with some huge names in music, helping write and collab on songs for such artists as Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Jake Owen and Leann Womack.

Opening for Marvel that evening will be a local band out of Marianna called HeyWord and you WILL need tickets to attend the concert portion of the anniversary celebration, which begins at 6 p.m.

Prior to the concert, you can visit Southern Fields for no cost to help them celebrate their 2 years of beer in the Craft Capital. They'll be releasing 3 new beers - an "Anniversary Ale," as well as two new sours (Blackberry Cheesecake and Key Lime Pie) - and there will be 3 food trucks on hand: Funky Mermaid (Panama City), Huey's Walking Taco (Enterprise, Ala.) and Ghost Tacos (Dothan, Ala.)

So start making plans now to go toast a pint to SFB in a couple of weeks!

Deep Brewing set for 3 can releases over next 3 weeks

Deep Brewing announced last week that they have THREE big can releases over the next three weeks.

First up on Friday (May 27) is a new Vienna Lager, which Deep described as: "A classic in every sense. Our malt backbone is derived from old-world Vienna, providing rich aromas reminiscent of freshly toasted bread crust mingling on the palate with impressions of wildflower honey and a lingering, yet satisfying bitterness. This malt and honey medley is a 5.0% ABV Amber Lager and pairs perfectly with the Florida sunshine and good times!"

There aren't a lot of Vienna lagers made around these parts, so we are excited about this!

The following week on June 3, Deep is coming out with a new IPA called "Zooxanthella," which — per Deep — is "an experiment of microscopic proportions as we get up close and personal with a new 'thiolized' yeast to bring forth all of the juice in this elegantly simple Single Malt Single Hop Hazy IPA. Purposeful selection of specialized microbes unlocks the full potential of Mosaic hops delivering flavors of papaya and melon into the macro, with subtle undercurrents of red berries floating on the breeze. 7.5% ABV."

Deep's IPA game has been super strong over the years, and we have no doubt this will be another hit to add to its growing catalog.

And lastly, Deep brings back a classic on June 10 —  "Vertigose," which is a mango, lime, habanero sour that packs an acidic punch from the mango and lime combination and some nice heat from the peppers.

This is, personally, one of our favorite beers Deep has ever made, so you better believe we'll be reserving a case just for ourselves!

Civic Brewing adds Sunday hours

After a bit of a battle with the city council JUST to open a brewery in Wakulla County last year — specifically, the city of Sopchoppy — Civic Brewing is already making strides to expand.

The Sopchoppy City Commission had an open forum last year to vote on whether to allow the brewery to open at all, and after much debate — and by a narrow margin — they voted yes. However, one of the stipulations about their opening was that Civic couldn't hold Sunday hours because of a longstanding local ordinance that banned alcohol sales on Sunday in Sopchoppy.

But Civic owner Elliot Seidler successfully petitioned the City Commission recently to change the ordinance, and Civic announced Monday that starting this weekend, they will now be open Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Here's what they said in the post:

"We have updated hours! Civic will now be open 1-5 p.m. on Sundays starting May 29. We’ll have new food too, alternating between The Mill House and Cypress Point Oysters every other Sunday. Hours the rest of the week are Wed-Fri 4-9 p.m. and Saturdays 1-9 p.m. with the delicious KP's Food Truck as usual. And we’ll continue to be closed Mon & Tue. Thanks for sticking with us for the first year and we’re looking forward to spending weekends with you! For those who are wondering: no wine yet, we’re still waiting on paperwork."

For folks who have been bummed they couldn't stop in to try their beer during the Sunday trips through Wakulla and down to the beach, those days are over! Go see 'em starting this Sunday!

And congrats to Civic for pushing this change forward!

Oyster City, Ology add pop-up markets on Sundays

Two Tallahassee breweries — OCBC Tallahassee and Ology Brewing (Powermill) — are now offering periodic markets in their beer garden areas on Sundays.

Oyster City's is called "Small Biz Sunday" and features a wide range of vendors selling their handmade goods in the OCBC beer garden, while Ology's is called the "Tallahassee Vintage/Art Market" with a lean more toward supporting local artists and vintage collectors.

Both breweries held their first one this past weekend with plans for more to come. Stay tuned to both of their social media feeds to find out when the next one is.

Eastpoint makes new food truck plans

Our friends at Eastpoint Beer Company posted on Facebook this week that their "Pizza Boat" — which has been churning out thin, crispy New York-style pizza for almost a year now for guests under the name "Vincenzo's Eastpoint Pizza Company" — will be undergoing a facelift and menu change soon. Here's what they said in their post:

"Hello EBC fans! We are in the process of making some exciting changes here at the EBC. Some changes are coming to Vincenzo's Pizza and we will be sharing some exciting news about some new additions as well. In the meantime, Vincenzo's Eastpoint Pizza will be available for IN HOUSE PURCHASE ONLY. NO DELIVERY or TO GO going forward. I know this will be a disappointment to some of our fans, but it's a decision we had to make. CHEERS AND MUCH LOVE FROM THE EBC"

We already know what's coming down the pipe as far as future food plans at EBC goes, but we can't divulge that just yet. The reason for the note this week is that we wanted to let all those TLH Beer Society Membership Card-holders (TLHBeerSociety.com) who LOVE taking advantage of EBC's perk on the card — 2 pints and a 2-topping pizza for $20 — not to fear: Whenever the new food concept is announced, there will still be a beer/food deal available for everyone who is a proud card carrier. And we will update that on our website at TLHBeerSociety.com.

So stay tuned!

Eastpoint will continue offering their delicious pizza for the next month while they work on the overhaul, so go get it before it's gone!
