For Ohio State football fans, the Cincinnati Bengals have a familiar face at punter.

Former Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman has taken over the Bengals' starting punter job after four seasons as the Buckeyes' main punter from 2017-20.

From punting to proposing to bottle flipping, here's a look at Chrisman's path to becoming the Bengals' special teams starter.

Drue Chrisman was one of the best punters in Ohio State history

Chrisman was one of the most decorated punters in Ohio State history.

The Lawrenceburg, Indiana native was a three-time All-Big Ten honoree and two-time semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, finishing his collegiate career averaging 44 yards per punt: fourth-best in program history.

Of his 185 career punts for the Buckeyes, 83 were downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line, including 29 during the 2018 season: second-most in school history.

One of Chrisman's biggest moments with the Buckeyes did not come during the regular season.

During halftime of Ohio State's spring game, Chrisman proposed to his girlfriend Avery Eliason, who bought into a supposed kicking competition between her and former Ohio State kicker Sean Nuernberger's girlfriend.

When Chrisman got in the holder's position and she approached to kick, he pulled the ball away and pulled out a ring. She accepted, leading to a celebration from Chrisman's teammates.

“I couldn’t think of a better place to do it than in Ohio Stadium, with the history behind the stadium,” Chrisman said. “To be able to do that was just a privilege.”

Chrisman was the only married member of the team in 2020, per Ohio State.

Drue Chrisman developed a following as a 'bottle-flipper'

Chrisman's skills were not only limited to punting or proposing. He also developed a following as a bottle-flipper.

Over the course of 2020, Chrisman posted multiple videos trying to break records of most water bottles flipped in 30 seconds, while also participating in a 24-hour bottle-flipping marathon to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund's Australia bushfire relief efforts

Chrisman had big shoes to fill on the Bengals roster.

After signing with the Bengals as a free agent in 2021 and later signing a reserve/future deal before the 2022 season, Chrisman replaces punter Kevin Huber, who was the longest-tenured Bengals player on the roster after 14 seasons with the team.

Chrisman took over the team's punting duties, averaging 47.8 per punt with two touchbacks and 13 landing inside the 20-yard line during the regular season.

During the 2022 postseason, Chrisman has landed three of his five punts inside the 20-yard line, averaging more than 50 yards per punt in the AFC Wild Card game against the Ravens.
