Prosecutor dismisses charges against Keith Davis Jr.

In his first week in office, Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates dismissed all charges against a man whose murder conviction was overturned after a fourth trial. Keith Davis Jr. was convicted in 2019 and sentenced in the 2015 killing of a Pimlico security guard, but his supporters said he was wrongly convicted. Two of the previous trials ended in mistrials, a third ended in a reversed conviction, and a jury returned a guilty verdict in the fourth trial in 2019 based on testimony that Davis' fingerprints were found on the gun connected with the killing. Davis was awaiting a fifth trial, the process for which was fraught with legal battles involving former State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who made comments regarding the case during a radio interview despite the judge issuing a gag order.
