Prosperity Bank receives approval to acquire FirstCapital banks across Texas, Oklahoma

Houston-based Prosperity Bank's parent company has received the final approval needed to acquire FirstCapital Bank of Texas, Prosperity announced this week. Both banks have locations throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

Prosperity Bancshares announced it received "all regulatory approvals" to complete the acquisition of First Bancshares of Texas, Inc., which they initially announced in October of 2022, according to a news release. The merger will be effective on May 1, 2023, subject to the "satisfaction or waiver of customary closing conditions described in the definitive merger agreement," the release stated.

"We are excited to have received the required regulatory and shareholder approvals for this transaction and look forward having the FirstCapital customers and associates join the Prosperity Bank team in several weeks," said David Zalman, Prosperity's Senior Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

FirstCapital Bank has banking centers in Midland, Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Byers, Henrietta, Dallas, Horseshoe Bay, Marble Falls and Fredericksburg. Those centers will continue under the FirstCapital name until the operational integration, which is expected to begin on May 15. At that time, FirstCapital customers can use any of Prosperity's 268 banking centers.

Prosperity's banking centers include 65 in the Houston area; 30 in the South Texas area including Corpus Christi and Victoria; 62 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; 22 in the East Texas area; 29 in the Central Texas area including Austin and San Antonio; 34 in the West Texas area including Lubbock, Midland-Odessa and Abilene; 16 in the Bryan/College Station area; 6 in the Central Oklahoma area; and 8 in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, according to the release.
