Protesters, police clash in New York

Police clubbed demonstrators and journalists, despite the fact that the protest had been peaceful up until that point, according to a Reuters photographer who was at the scene.

New York had imposed an 8 p.m local (0000GMT) curfew in an effort to curtail several nights of looting.

Prosecutors on Wednesday leveled new criminal charges against the four Minneapolis policemen implicated in the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man pinned by his neck to the street by a white officer.

The added murder charge filed against one officer already in custody and the arrest of three more accused of playing a role came as several nights of escalating unrest gave way to mostly peaceful protests.

The confrontation in Brooklyn seemed to be the biggest exception to a calmer night across the U.S.
