Protests in Baghdad Against Iraqi Parliamentary Election Results Escalate Into Violence

Iraqi protesters and security forces clashed in the capital city of Baghdad on Friday, November 5, during demonstrations against the preliminary results of last month’s parliamentary elections.

This footage was filmed by news agency @uunionnews, which said it shows confrontations between the opposing sides in the Green Zone area of Baghdad. People are seen attending to a collapsed man in the first clip.

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, 98 security personnel and 27 protesters were injured, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The country’s electoral commission began recounting votes from 2,000 election offices after they received about 1,400 appeals, and have so far found that the results of their manual counting are consistent with the electronic results, according to Anadolu Agency. Credit: @uunionnews via Storyful
