Protests greet Trump in Baltimore after tweets

Dozens of people in Baltimore greeted Donald Trump with protests on Thursday (September 12).

It's the U.S. president's first visit there since he called the city "disgusting" on Twitter two months ago.

Trump also slammed a prominent African-American congressman from Baltimore, Elijah Cummings, calling him a "brutal bully" who should concentrate on cleaning up his "rodent-infested" distrrict rather than criticizing U.S. immigration officers on the Mexican border.

The president was in the city to give a speech at an annual Republican retreat competing for air time with the Democratic presidential debate in Houston.

He also took the time to rip his challengers including Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden.

"Democrats care more about illegal aliens. Than their own constituents. Republicans know our duty is to represent American citizens. After all we've achieved and after everything that we've accomplished our message is simple: The best is yet to come. The best is yet to come."

Trump also touted his recent repeal of Obama-era protections for waterways.

"Government will no longer try to micromanage every rain puddle and every drainage ditch on private land. They took your land away from you."

Environmental gorups have said the Obama rule was necessary to protect drinking water sources at risk from agri-business and industry.

Trump also managed a jab at the Baltimore's leaders- calling it a city destroyed by decades of failed and corrupt rule.
