“The Proud Family” Might Be Getting a Reboot on Disney’s New Streaming Service

One of Disney Channel’s most memorable, iconic, and hilarious cartoon families is ready for their comeback. Yup, we might have new episodes of The Proud Family very soon.

During the red carpet premiere of new movie 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, actor Tommy Davidson revealed that new episodes of The Proud Family series would be making their way to the upcoming Disney+ streaming service after 14 years off the air. Tommy, of course, voiced the character of the Proud Family’s patriarch, Oscar Proud, on the original series.

According to Complex, Tommy told Where Is the Buzz, "I forgot to tell you that, The Proud Family is coming back. Proud Family's coming back. It's on one of Disney's streaming [services]. Yeah, Proud Family's coming back. They told me not to tell you."

The announcement of The Proud Family’s return already has Twitter in a frenzy. Longtime fans tweeted out their favorite series moments and what storylines they hoped to see in the upcoming revival, while also reminiscing about the show’s incredibly nostalgic theme song, originally performed by a young Solange and Destiny’s Child.

The show, which originally premiered in 2001, lasted four seasons and included a feature movie finale. One of Disney Channel’s first sitcoms to star a predominantly Black cast and depict modern, suburban Black life, the series followed main character Penny Proud and the everyday rambunctiousness of her friends and family — often featuring memorable guest stars such as Gabrielle Union, Kobe Bryant, and even Mariah Carey.

While the news remains unconfirmed for the moment, the Disney+ streaming service launches on Nov. 12, so hopefully we'll find out about the reboot soon.
