These Proud UT Alums Are Officially the Oldest Living Couple in the World

With a combined 211 years between them, John and Charlotte Henderson of Austin, Texas, have been named the oldest living couple in the world by Guinness World Records.

On December 15, John, 106, and Charlotte, 105, will celebrate an incredible 80 years of marriage.

The longtime lovebirds met at The University of Texas in 1934. Charlotte was studying to become a teacher, while John was a guard for the football team, reports CNN. They married in 1939 and spent just $7 on their honeymoon.

The couple has been living in at Longhorn Village, a senior living community associated with the University of Texas alumni group Texas Exes, for the last 10 years.

Both are in good health, and John, the oldest living former UT football player and unofficial Longhorn Village major, still exercises daily.

As for their secret to a long and happy life? Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse, John said.
