Providence police: Man shot near Burger King, IHOP Friday afternoon

PROVIDENCE — A 25-year-old man was shot early Friday afternoon near Burger King and the International House of Pancakes on Pleasant Valley Parkway, the police said.

The man, whose wounds were not life-threatening, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, said Providence police Maj. David Lapatin.

Investigators have not made any arrests, he said.

Two Providence patrol officers were flagged down at 12:32 p.m. by a woman who told them that she heard two to three gunshots and saw a black sedan fleeing toward the nearby Rhode Island Blood Center, said Providence police Cmdr. Thomas Verdi.

The officers also encountered a man on the sidewalk who told them that four men in a black sedan had shot him, said Verdi.
