Prudential Center in Newark among Top 10 venues in world for 2022 concert year

Big shows led to big numbers for the Prudential Center in Newark in 2022.

The venue scored Top 10 worldwide ranking in both the Pollstar and Billboard year-end lists for concert venue grosses. Pollstar cited a $85,244,186 gross to put the venue at No. 5 on its list; Billboard tabulated $79,934,485 to land it at No. 10.

The Prudential Center hosted sold out shows by Elton John, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Sebastian Maniscalco, Daddy Yankee, Tool, Kevin Hart and Chris Rock, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, My Chemical Romance and more in 2022.

“After experiencing almost two years of COVID shutdown for live events, I recognized that we all need each other in order to be successful in the entertainment industry,” said Sean Saadeh of the Prudential Center in a statement. “It is not just a venue or promoter or artist, we are all part of the ecosystem that makes live entertainment go.”

After nearly 18 months of no big shows due to the pandemic, the concert industry “experienced a sharp uptick this year, driven by a combination of pent-up demand, a number of big tours and inflation,” according to Billboard.

Sixteen tours crossed the $100 million mark for gross revenue, including top act Bad Bunny with $373,463,379 in revenue, according to Billboard. He played the Prudential Center in March. Belleville's My Chemical Romance, who reunited prior to the pandemic, finally hit the road in 2022 and scored more than $87 million in grosses, which included two shows at the Prudential Center in September.

The Prudential Center also hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in August. The venue is home to the New Jersey Devils NHL team and the Seton Hall men’s college basketball team. Upcoming shows announced for the 2023 Prudential Center season include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (April 14), Marc Anthony (Feb. 11), Carrie Underwood (Feb. 18), Ana Gabriel (March 31), and Anita Baker (May 10).

“There truly is nothing like a live event and with New Jersey having some of the most passionate fans, it always makes for one of the best stops on each and every tour,” Saadeh said. “We are always told that the energy that New Jersey crowds is bar none and we take great pride in when trying to provide the best content for those fans.”
