PS5 stock UK – live: Smyths restocks consoles in-store – how to get one

UPDATE: The PS5 is available to pre-order in-store at Smyths Toys now. Read on for more information.

The PS5 launched almost a whole year ago in the UK on November 19 2020, but supply problems and a global semiconductor shortage have caused the production of Sony’s new game console to slow substantially. New stock is still quite difficult to find, and when it does appear the PS5 sells out almost instantly.

October got off to an extremely slow start when it comes to PS5 restocks. We only saw four retailers drop stock in the first two weeks. But last week, we had nine massive drops from Asda, Studio, John Lewis & Partners, Very, Littlewoods, Argos, Hamleys, Game and AO.com. This week, we’ve had more drops from BT, EE, Argos, Amazon and Game, so the month has definitely improved. As we race towards the PS5’s one-year anniversary, let’s just hope November delivers the goods.

If you’re still on the lookout for a PS5, you’ve come to the right place. Our liveblog is on hand to give you the latest insight on Playstation 5 restocks from all major UK retailers, both online and in-store, as well as providing details on rumoured releases, the latest PS5 games and accessories to snap up.

A recap of today’s PS5 restock events (and October)

16:48 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

It’s been a somewhat quiet day for PS5 restocks, with only Smyths Toys rearing its head with an in-store restock today, but we have had a whole seven drops this week, so we can’t really complain.

But how has October been on the whole? Well, it got off to a really slow start. In the first two weeks, only five retailers dropped the console – BT, Smyths Toys, Game, ShopTo and AO.

In total this month, we’ve had 18 drops – and four half-drops from AO, which (sorry AO) doesn’t really count because you could only check out by editing the website’ code using Google Chrome. It’s not a patch on August’s 35, but we’ll take it for sure.

As ever, thank you all for following along with our live PS5 stock updates. It’s always great to see so many of you bag the console. We’ll be back on Monday to do this all again. Let’s hope November is full to the brim with console drops! Ciao for now.

People successfully check out at Argos

Wednesday 27 October 2021 10:04 , Alex Lee

The Argos PS5 restock is a bit of a nightmare to contend with. While the regional drops can be a bit hit or miss, some people have managed to successfully order the console online as well as in-store.

Most stores dropped at 8am, so there won’t be many left floating around. But if you need a console, you need one!

BT PS5 stock is now live

Wednesday 27 October 2021 10:19 , Alex Lee

The PS5 is now in stock at BT. You will either need to be a BT Broadband customer to purchase the console or have a BT access code.

You can get a PS5 disc edition console with a pulse 3D wireless headset for £538.98 (Bt.com). The retailer also sells disc edition consoles with additional controllers, if those take your fancy.

Register your interest if you haven’t done so already. This is the only way to get an access code when the PS5 drops next.

How to get a BT PS5 access code

Unfortunately, unless you’ve been sent a BT PS5 access code by email, you won’t be able to to grab one of the bundles. If you didn’t get a code, you should still be able to bag a console if you’re a BT Broadband customer and are logged in.

Free PS Plus games November 2021 leaked

Wednesday 27 October 2021 11:39 , Alex Lee

It’s a little last minute, seeing as the free PS Plus games for November 2021 are going to be officially announced by Sony today anyway, but French website Dealabs has just leaked them early.

What PS Plus games are coming out in November?

Obviously, these are still leaks, so they might not turn out to be true, but Dealabs has consistently predicted the PS Plus games ahead of time for several months now.

  • Knockout City (PS5/PS4)

  • First Class Trouble (PS5/PS4)

  • The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PSVR)

  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (PS4)

Two more games, which have not been leaked, are also rumoured to be made available on PS Plus in November.

One BT PS5 bundle is still in stock

Wednesday 27 October 2021 12:06 , Alex Lee

UPDATE (12:28pm): BT has now sold out.

BT Broadband customers, this is your pilot speaking. There is one bundle remaining on BT’s website. We repeat, one bundle remaining.

You can get a PS5 disc edition console with an additional dualsense controller and a pulse 3D wireless headset for £598.98 (Bt.com). BT says that there are more than 50 in stock, so you’ve still got time to buy the bundle.

PlayStation State of Play kicks off tonight

Wednesday 27 October 2021 13:46 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

While we’re on the topic of PS5 games, PlayStation’s State of Play kicks off this evening! At 10pm tonight, PlayStation will be hosting a 20-minute showcase of some upcoming PlayStation games.

Sony says that it is focusing on third-party titles and that both PS4 and PS5 games will be shown off at the event. You’ll be able to watch the broadcast on Twitch and YouTube.

Need a PS5 external hard drive?

Wednesday 27 October 2021 14:36 , Alex Lee

If you have a bunch of PS4 games that you’d like to play on your PS5, we’d recommend buying a simple plug and play external hard drive. We’re big fans of the Seagate 4TB HDD (£84.99, Amazon.co.uk).

With Sony’s wealth of PlayStation 4 titles, it’s useful to have additional storage so you can store those games externally while leaving the internal SSD drive for PlayStation 5 titles. “The Seagate 4TB HDD is designed with PlayStation consoles in mind and is incredibly simple to set up. Effectively, you just plug it in and you’re good to go,” our reviewer said. “Thanks to its extensive storage capacity, it’s possible to store over 100 PlayStation 4 games so you should never run out of room.”

When did Very last have PS5 consoles in stock?

Wednesday 27 October 2021 15:26 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Very last had a restock on 19 October, and it usually drops consoles once or twice a month, so we aren’t expecting another drop until November now.

While Very doesn’t have as many bundles as Game, restocks at the retailer tend to last just as long. We frequently see PS5s remain topped up for at least two hours. We’ll let you know if we hear any more news about a Very restock in the coming days.

A recap of today’s PS5 restock events

Wednesday 27 October 2021 17:30 , Alex Lee

What a day, what a day! After a lousy start to October, the PS5 stock drops are finally picking up steam. We’ve had three massive drops today from Argos, Amazon and BT. While Amazon’s drop didn’t last very long, both Argos and BT’s sure did.

Didn’t manage to bag a console? There’s a good chance that Game will be dropping 50 different bundles tomorrow morning. Join us then for all the latest restock updates. Ciao for now.

What PS5 restocks could we see today?

Thursday 28 October 2021 08:18 , Alex Lee

Gooooooood morning PS5 hunters and welcome to another day of PS5 stock tracking action. We’ve had five drops so far this week, with BT even coming back for a second round yesterday morning.

Game will make that six if the retailer drops today. As usual, we’ll be here all day bringing you the live restock updates as they happen. Stick around and let’s get going!

PlayStation State of Play recap and replay

Thursday 28 October 2021 08:33 , Alex Lee

But before we get going, here’s a quick recap of what we saw at the PlayStation State of Play event last night. Ten PS4 and PS5 titles were announced during the roughly 20-minute showcase. These included everything from Star Ocean The Divine Force to Little Devil Inside.

Game PS5 bundles could drop this morning

Thursday 28 October 2021 08:49 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Right, onto the real stuff: PS5 stock! As mentioned earlier, we could see Game restock 50 different bundles this morning.

The retailer has restocked the console once every week this month since 12 October, and if our prediction is correct, it could do so again today.

On Monday, Game updated its PS5 bundles page with new dispatch dates of 4 October, with the listing page saying that priority insured deliveries will be shipped by 1 November.

Game only ever restocks the console on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, meaning that the retailer will have to drop the console today if it wants to meet its shipping date and stick to its restock pattern.

When will we know if Game PS5 stock is dropping this morning?

Thursday 28 October 2021 09:02 , Alex Lee

For about the last eight drops, Game has consistently put out an early warning message on its Twitter page, just before going live with consoles

If the PS5 bundles do drop this morning, the retailer will most likely throw up a tweet an hour or two before the restock happens. Keep an eye out on Game’s Twitter page. It won’t alert you when stock officially goes live, however – we’ll let you know the second it does.

Game PS5 bundles confirmed to drop this morning

Thursday 28 October 2021 09:12 , Alex Lee

And here’s the tweet as predicted! Game has now confirmed that yes, it is indeed dropping consoles this morning. There are still 50 different bundles listed on its PS5 bundles page, so expect this drop to be a lengthy one.

A restock could take place any time from now until 12pm. The earliest drop was at 9:45am and the latest was at 11:45am, so just be prepared for the drop and have your trigger fingers ready. We’ll be providing some Game tips over the next few posts.

Tips for the Game PS5 restock

Thursday 28 October 2021 09:28 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Although Game has plenty of bundles to choose from, copping one is still a competitive affair. We do have a few IndyBest tips to impart upon you, which readers have told us have helped them bag a console.

Never go for standalone consoles – these sell out within seconds. Choose an obscure bundle – preferably one with the T-shirt or the cap. From experience, people just don’t want those extra items, so they’re easier to get.

Once you’re in the queue, stay in the queue. If you click too many different bundles in a short space of time, you will be locked out from Game’s website for about three minutes – you don’t want this to happen to you during a drop.

Can you skip the Game PS5 queue?

Thursday 28 October 2021 10:09 , Alex Lee

Congrats to anyone who’s bagged one so far, it seems like a bunch of you have already managed to check out with your PS5 bundle at Game! For those still waiting in the queue, stay there!

You also can’t skip the queue unfortunately. The queue time estimation can be a little unreliable, so it might jump around a bit, but if you clicked a bundle within five minutes of our post going up, you should be golden.

Can you use a PS4 controller on PS5?

Thursday 28 October 2021 10:40 , Alex Lee

All PS5s come with one dualsense controller out of the box, so if you just bagged a PS5 at Game and are looking over at your PS4 controller with sad longing, don’t worry!

While you can use your PS4 pad on your PS5, you can only use it to play PS4 games, so you won’t be able to use your dualshock 4 to play any PS5-exclusive games. Luckily, there aren’t too many PS5 exclusives to choose from.

When will your PS5 Game pre-order be dispatched?

Thursday 28 October 2021 11:10 , Alex Lee

There are only a couple of PS5 bundles left, so if you haven’t grabbed one yet, either remain in the queue or get queueing! Just a reminder that while the standalone console displays as in stock, it’s not and if you start queueing, you won’t be able to secure a PS5.

Payment will be taken out close to the dispatch date. If you paid for priority insured delivery, your PS5 bundle will be dispatched on 1 November. All other purchases will be dispatched on 4 November.

Game PS5 stock sells out

Thursday 28 October 2021 11:20 , Alex Lee

The PS5 has now sold out at Game. While you can still join the queue, it looks like you’ll be booted back to the main PlayStation landing page once you reach the end.

That said, there could be another Game PS5 drop this afternoon. We’ll provide all the details on that in the next post. Keep watch.

More Game PS5 bundles could drop in the afternoon

Thursday 28 October 2021 11:50 , Alex Lee

Didn’t manage to cop a PS5 at the Game drop? Game sometimes comes back for another round of restocks in the afternoon.

These are usually cancelled orders from the drop in the morning – maybe a customer’s card was declined or they cancelled their order after buying it. It’s usually a much shorter drop, lasting around 15 minutes.

The afternoon drop isn’t always guaranteed to take place, however, so keep an eye on the blog and we’ll let you know the second Game restocks again this afternoon.

BT Shop PS5 stock update

Thursday 28 October 2021 12:40 , Alex Lee

What about BT PS5 stock? The retailer had a drop yesterday and consoles stuck around for quite a while, as it always does. The sheer exclusivity of its drops mean that consoles hang around for a pretty long time.

To bag a console, you either need to be a BT Broadband customer or have a BT PS5 access code. To get an access code, you need to register your interest at the BT Shop, but BT doesn’t always send out codes to non-BT Broadband customers, so broadband customers will always get priority.

Could Smyths Toys PS5 stock drop this week?

Thursday 28 October 2021 13:30 , Alex Lee

 (iStock/The Independent)
(iStock/The Independent)

If you managed to cop a PS5 from Smyths Toys on 5 October, you’ve hopefully got it all set up in your living room already, or hidden away in a cupboard somewhere ready to gift for Christmas. .

The last of the pre-orders were expected to be fulfilled on 20 October, but get in touch if you haven’t been able to pick yours up yet.

If we’re lucky, we could see another restock sometime this week, potentially on Friday, although we’ve only seen that happen once before. It’s more likely that the retailer will restock the console again next week at the start of November.

Some PS5 VR details leaked in August

Thursday 28 October 2021 15:10 , Alex Lee

We sadly didn’t get a sneak peek at the PS5 VR during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase event in September, nor did we get a whiff of it yesterday during the PlayStation State of Play event, but honestly, it was to be expected.

That said, it did get shown off at a secret developers summit in August, so at least we know it’s real and that people have seen it with their own two eyes.

During the event, Sony revealed new controllers that would allegedly be able to tell where a user’s hands are positioned, and how far away they are from the buttons, as well as the way Sony would be releasing games for the sequel to its PSVR headset.

You can read more about it below:

The PS5 has sold out at Game (again)

Thursday 28 October 2021 15:31 , Alex Lee

After 45 minutes, the second round of PS5 consoles at Game have now sold out. Well done to anyone who managed to bag the console during this smaller drop.

It’s far harder to secure a console during the afternoon drop than it is during the morning drop, so we salute anyone who picked one up. Didn’t get one? Stay tuned for more restock updates.

Smyths Toys in-store restock

08:27 , Alex Lee

Smyths Toys is restocking today at 8.30am for pre-orders, but in-store only – although the actual time depends on store opening times.

There's just one thing you need to know, you have to pay a £20 deposit to pre-order, but of course this is taken off the full price which is either £429.99 or £339.99, depending on the edition you choose.

Pre-orders will be fulfilled between 15-20 November.

Good luck!

Tips for the Smyths Toys PS5 restock

08:52 , Alex Lee

Smyths Toys had one of these in-store only drops at the start of October and a bunch of you successfully managed to secure a console then. Annoyingly, Smyths didn’t update its PS5 listing page when it dropped stock in-store last time, so don’t expect to be able to find a stock count on the website.

Some Smyths Toys stores have already opened their doors. Get queueing if not because these consoles are going to go fast! Visit Smyths Toys’s website to find out where your local store is located. Some stores open at 10am.

People successfully pre-order PS5s at Smyths Toys

09:11 , Alex Lee

It seems like a bunch of early birds have already pre-ordered their PS5 from Smyths Toys, paid their deposit and are now on their merry way, safe in the knowledge that they’ve secured a PS5, and that it’s arriving before Christmas.

Reports currently suggest that there are very few PS5 pre-order spots allocated to each store, so we wish everyone in line the best of luck in securing one. Let us know if you do!

When will Smyths Toys PS5 pre-orders be available?

09:33 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

If you managed to pre-order a PS5 from Smyths Toys in-store this morning, you will be able to collect your console from your local store (at the latest) by 20 November.

Not got one yet? We’ve been hearing of extremely long queues outside Smyths Toys stores, so all the pre-order spots may have been snapped up by now. It’s still worth popping into your local store to check, especially if your one opens up at 10am.

We expect another Smyths restock to happen shortly after 20 November – potentially in the final week of the month.

How to check Smyths Toys PS5 stock availability

10:18 , Alex Lee

Frustratingly, Smyths Toys doesn’t update its PS5 product pages to say whether or not your local store still has stock available.

While we’re doubtful as to whether there’s still some PS5s left in-store, with so many customers tweeting about the length of queues this morning, if you’re feeling lazy, then give Smyths Toys customer service (0333 344 1157) a ring, hit number 7 and ask for your local Smyths Toys store.

Politely ask whether there are any pre-order spots still available. That way you won’t have to waste a trip into town. But as we said earlier, some people have been queuing since 7am, so we won’t be surprised if all consoles have sold out.

When will John Lewis PS5 stock drop?

 (iStock/The Independent)
(iStock/The Independent)

John Lewis & Partners drops a new batch of PS5 consoles every six weeks or so, and its haul is always pretty small. The retailer last restocked the console on 19 October and the drop only lasted a few minutes.

According to @PS5StockAlertUK, the retailer isn’t expected to receive another small shipment of PS5 disc edition consoles on 22 November, indicating another restock between 25-26 November. This should take place around 7am. Pop it in your diaries now.

Studio PS5 console availability

11:18 , Alex Lee

Like John Lewis & Partners, Studio also had a restock on 19 October. The retailer usually only has one restock every month, so we’re not expecting to see the consoles reappear on the company’s website until Tuesday 2 November at the earliest. It only ever restocks on a Tuesday or a Thursday.

Studio sells a few bundles, although they’re not currently viewable on the website, and we’ve had some readers get in touch to say that they’ve managed to secure one from the retailer with our help. It’s a website worth bookmarking for sure.

What Game.co.uk PS5 bundles are there?

12:08 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Game has the largest number of bundles out of all the retailers. There are 50 bundles in total, but not all of them go on sale during a drop.

During the restock yesterday, Game reduced its total bundles from 50 to 38. The cheapest disc edition bundle came with an additional controller and a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (£561.97, Game.co.uk).

Other bundles to highlight include one disc edition console with Demon’s Souls and an extra controller (£594.96, Game.co.uk). We also saw a good disc edition bundle with a copy of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Fifa 22 and an extra controller for £644.96 (Game.co.uk).

Kitting yourself out for a serious gaming session now you’ve finally landed a console? Check out Sony’s Playstation 5 pulse 3D wireless headset (£89, Amazon.co.uk), which landed a spot in our review of the best PS5 accessories.

Our tester said: “There’s no shortage of gaming headset options out there but the PlayStation 5 pulse 3D wireless headset is a little bit special. Made with certain PlayStation 5 games in mind, its 3D audio means you can feel fully immersed in the experience, feeling like things are truly happening all around you.

“It’s a distinctive way of doing things that stands out more so than conventional headsets, even if not all games fully take advantage of it just yet. It can help you gain an advantage in certain titles too, which is always useful.

“It uses a wireless adapter to connect to your console rather than Bluetooth which is a minor irritant, and you’ll need to remember to recharge it, but it sounds fantastic and it’s comfy to wear even after a number of hours of playing.”

PS5 disc edition vs digital

16:08 , Alex Lee

 (Sony)
(Sony)

What’s the difference between the PS5 disc edition and the digital edition? Well, The Independent’s technology editor, Andrew Griffin said that there’s “very little” setting the two apart.

The first thing that really distinguishes the two from one another is the price. Followed by the fact that the lack of disc drive means the digital edition it’s slightly smaller (W390mm x H92mm x D260mm) than the disc model (W390mm x H104mm x D260mm).

In terms of the cost, the normal disc version is £449.99 in the UK, while the digital edition sans the disc drive is £359.99.
