PSA, deleting your Peridot account will also delete your Pokémon GO account

The issue came to light after someone lost a level 50 Pokémon GO account.

Pokémon GO: Deleting your Peridot Account will also delete Your PokémonGO Account

Pokémon GO players, beware.

In case you decide to try Niantic’s newest Augmented Reality (AR) game, Peridot (described by our colleagues at TechCrunch as Pokémon GO meeting Tamagotchi), but later find it's not your cup of tea, please don't proceed to delete your account afterwards.

This action will delete your entire Niantic account, which will wipe your Pokémon GO account in the process.

Twitter user @Misipeka619_shared her experience in a tweet to warn others about the possibility.

In the tweet, she said that she tried to delete her Peridot account, but it also deleted her level 50 Pokémon GO account.

The user claimed they received the following error when attempting to sign into Pokémon GO after requesting to delete their Peridot account within the Peridot app: “Unable to sign in. Please check that this Pokémon GO account exists and you have correctly selected New or Returning Player.”

The player reached out to Niantic for help regarding the said issue, with many other Twitter users resharing and tagging Niantic and Niantic Help to help the said player.

Within less than eight hours, Niantic reached out to the player and restored her account.

A Facebook page named Pokémon Global News shared the warning with its followers.

“This is common when you are using your account on multiple games from the same company, but this time there is no warning,” PokémonGlobal News said in a reply to their post.

The news also spread on Reddit, where redditor KillerCory said they almost made the same mistake.

“When you go to delete your account in Peridot, it simply says you are deleting your Peridot account. It makes no mention of other games being affected,” they shared.

“You will get an email to confirm deletion, and the thing that stopped me from proceeding was a sentence saying that my current email address can no longer be used with Niantic.”

KillerCory also said that the “wording for the deletion in the app itself could be better,” to which most players agree.

Your Peridot Keeper Account is the same as your Niantic ID

On the Peridot Help Center page, there was an announcement on Monday (9 May) that the Peridot Keeper Name is “now Powered by Niantic ID.”

This means that those who used an existing Niantic ID to log into Peridot will merge with the Peridot Keeper Name.

“Your Keeper Name will be changed to your Niantic ID automatically. You will see this same username throughout Peridot, your Niantic Profile, and Campfire.”

This only means that Niantic uses only one player ID or account per player across all of its games, so when the game asks you if you “want to delete your Peridot account,” it’s asking you if you want to delete your Niantic ID.

What if I don’t want to play Peridot anymore or just want to try the game?

If you just want to try the game for now, there’s an option to use a Guest account.

According to the Peridot Help Center, “a Guest Account allows you to try out Peridot without having to create a Niantic Account.”

However, a guest account’s progress won’t be saved unless you link an email address to upgrade your Guest Account to a Niantic Account.

However, if you’ve already started playing using your Niantic ID, the safest way to keep your progress across all Niantic apps is to just uninstall the Peridot app.
