PSP investigate Bitcoin scam in Clinton County

FLEMINGTON BOROUGH, CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) are reminding residents in Clinton County to be aware of scams after one victim fell victim to a Bitcoin scam.

PSP says on Wednesday, February 28, a victim reported to state police that she had received emails from an unknown suspect claiming the victim owed them money.

Troopers say the victim was instructed to go to a Bitcoin machine, transfer money from her bank account, convert it into Bitcoin, and send it to an unknown person’s Bitcoin wallet.

State Police say the victim lost out on $8,500 and they are still investigating.

PSP wishes to stress to area residents to please be aware that no legitimate debt collector will ever have them transfer their money into Bitcoin and this is a commonly used scam tactic.
