PSP patrol vehcile struck; trooper injured

Apr. 20—A state trooper suffered injuries when his parked patrol car was struck by a suspected impaired driver on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Penn Lake Park borough Saturday night.

Trooper Joseph Splendido, 53, of the Pocono station, was running radar along the northbound lanes of the highway at 9:15 p.m. when he clocked a vehicle at 93 mph, police said.

The vehicle struck a concrete barrier, drove off the road and struck Splendido's vehicle, police said.

Both occupants of the speeding vehicle, Yerson Adolpho Garcia Guzman, 28, and Sharitzy Singh Santiago, 44, both of Duryea, were taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for injuries.

Both were suspected of being under the influence, according to the release, and troopers did not indicate who was driving.

Splendido was also taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, was treated and released, police said.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed. An investigation continues.
