PUBG MOBILE announced on Wednesday (7 February) that the 2024 PUBG Mobile esports season will kick off with the 2024 PUBG MOBILE Global Open (PMGO) Brazil, which will be hosted in São Paulo from March to April and will feature 16 teams fighting for their cut of a US$500,000 prize pool.

The 2024 PMGO Brazil will be split into three main stages: the open qualifiers from 4 to 30 March, the Prelims from 1 to 3 April, and the Main Event from 5 to 7 April.

The tournament's US$500,000 prize pool will also be split across all three stages. The open qualifiers and Prelims will include US$84,000 and US$80,000 in participation rewards, respectively, while US$356,000 will be up for grabs during the main event.

The open qualifiers will be open to all interested teams and the 32 best-performing squads will receive invites to the Offline Qualifier Finals in Brazil from 28 to 30 March. The highest-scoring teams from the qualifiers will advance to the Prelims.

The PMGO Prelims will pit the qualifier teams and eight directly-invited Partnership Program teams fight to be among the eight squads advancing to the Main Event in São Paulo, where eight more directly-invited teams await.

The PMGO Main Event will feature six daily matches across popular maps like Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok, with the highest-scoring team emerging as the 2024 PMGO Brazil champions.

PUBG Mobile said in a press release that Brazil was chosen to host this year's PMGO due to its strong competitive scene, vibrant esports culture, and the impressive performance of Brazilian teams in the 2023 PUBG MOBILE Global Championship, such as third-place Alpha7 Esports.

The 2024 PMGO Brazil is also set to expand PUBG MOBILE’s 2024 esports calendar and underscores the game's "commitment to enhance the competitive landscape in the region with significant investment in Brazil’s esports scene".

Aside from PMGO Brazil, the 2024 esports calendar for PUBG MOBILE will also see the return of the mid-season global tournament and the PUBG MOBILE Global Championship along with an expanded partner program across multiple regions.

“We’re very excited for the addition of the PMGO to our tournament roster, which will help grow the esports ecosystem in Brazil and bring them even more opportunities to shine on a regional and global level. This is also our first tournament that allows local players to qualify directly for a global main event," said James Yang, Senior Director of PUBG MOBILE Global Esports.

"We’re hoping to see some great play from local teams, with some very loud support from Brazil's passionate players and fans!” said James Yang, Senior Director of PUBG MOBILE Global Esports.
