  • On April 30, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) Pennsylvania will host their 2019 Golden Door Awards: Defending Freedom’s Flame, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at the Crystal Tea Room, 100 Penn Square East, Philadelphia. At this event, HIAS Pennsylvania will highlight the critical work that private individuals, firms and immigrants themselves do to support refugees and immigrants in Philadelphia. Representative Jared Solomon, elected to Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives in November 2016 representing District 202 in Northeast Philadelphia, will be honored.   • On May 1, the Juvenile Law Center (JLC) will hold its 2019 Leadership Prize Celebration at the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St., Philadelphia. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. JLC’s Leadership Prize 2019 winners are Elizabeth Calvin, Human Rights Watch; Nicole Pittman, Center on Youth Registration Reform-Impact Justice; and Jennifer Rodriguez, Youth Law Center.   • On May 16, Philadelphia VIP will host its signature fundraising event, "Brushstrokes for Justice," from 5:30–8 p.m., at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts’ (PAFA) Historic Landmark Building, 118-128 N.   • On May 19, the Philadelphia Bar Association will hold its 40th Annual Philadelphia Bar Association Run-Walk, beginning at 7:30 a.m., at Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, 4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the association’s run-walk. To celebrate this exciting milestone, a 10K race option has been added.   • On May 22, the ACLU of Pennsylvania will host the Greater Philadelphia Chapter 2019 Annual Gathering, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the 23rd Street Armory, 22 S 23rd St., Philadelphia. The gathering will take place at the ACLU’s 100 interactive traveling exhibit that marks its 100th anniversary and showcases some of the ACLU’s work in a never-before-seen way. Deputy Director of the ACLU’s racial justice program Nusrat Choudhury will speak about national efforts that are driving criminal justice reform, and Reggie Shuford, ACLU-PA executive director, will discuss the ACLU’s progress across the commonwealth and the challenges that remain ahead.   • On May 22 and 23, the ACLU of Pennsylvania will host the ACLU 100 Experience, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the 23rd Street Armory, 22 S 23rd St., Philadelphia. The ACLU 100 interactive traveling exhibit showcases some of the ACLU’s work in a never-before-seen way and will run for two full days, including a variety of live programming and entertainment, food and music.   • On May 30, June 6 and 13, and July 11 and 18, and June 21 and 28 and July 26, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s public interest section, law school outreach committee, will host the “2019 Summer Brown Bag Lunch Series,” from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. These free programs provide an opportunity for summer law student interns to meet public interest attorneys who are leaders in their field and learn about different types of public interest practice and fellowship opportunities in the greater Philadelphia area.
