The Williamsburg-James City County School Board is seeking feedback on the division’s proposed 2023-2024 academic calendar.

Among the suggestions, the calendar reduces the number of early release days, instead making them student holidays, and proposes nine days for winter break.

The school division’s calendar committee drafted the proposed calendar for the upcoming academic year “working within guidelines shaped by state law, district policy, employee contracts and established practices,” according to an announcement on WJCC’s website.

The community is being asked to provide feedback on the proposed calendar, particularly concerning the length of the winter break.

Feedback will help the school board decide whether the division should have 10 school days off for winter break, ending school on June 14, 2024, or have nine school days off for winter break, ending school on June 13.

The first day of school is again scheduled to start before Labor Day — on Aug. 28.

Parents, staff, and community members interested in providing feedback are asked to fill out the online survey by this Friday.
