Public meeting on NJ derailment delayed with shelter-in-place order still on

PAULSBORO, N.J. (AP) -- Officials have called off a public meeting about the aftermath of a New Jersey train derailment.

The forum involving representatives of several agencies was scheduled for Tuesday evening in Paulsboro. It was pushed back because by midday residents were being told to stay inside due to a high level of vinyl chloride in the air.

The gas was released when a freight train derailed Friday and some of the hazardous gas was released into the air.

In recent days, multiple shelter-it-place orders have been announced. That's resulted in closed schools and businesses and delays in cleaning up the accident.
