U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says public opinion is now on the side of an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump... following the release of new information about Trump's conversations with the Ukrainian president.

This comes after reports surfaced last week that Trump had pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential frontrunner in the 2020 election, and his son Hunter.

Pelosi, on Saturday, sat down for an interview with Evan Smith, CEO of the Texas Tribune:

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI, SAYING: (SOUNDBITE STARTS ON SMITH)

"Let me just say that my fidelity to the oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution does not depend on where the Republicans are in Congress (applause). But nonetheless, nonetheless, an objective review of the facts, they'll have to make their own decisions. But in the public, the tide has completely changed, it could change now - who knows - but right now after seeing the complaint and the IG (Inspector General) report and the cavalier attitude the administration had towards it, the American people are coming to a different dec... (decision).

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI, SAYING:"This is a very sad time for our country. There is no joy in this. It's sad. We must be somber. We must be prayerful. And we must pursue the facts further. To make a decision as to 'did this violate the Constitution of the United States' which I believe it did, or else I would not have made the statement that I did."

Trump has blasted the impeachment inquiry, arguing that he did nothing wrong and accusing Democrats of launching a politically motivated 'witch hunt.'
