Publix and Aldi store brands among more charcuterie pack recalls on salmonella concerns

Nine brands of charcuterie meats with coppa, including Publix and Aldi’s store brands, have been recalled by Fratelli Beretta because they “may be under processed, which may have resulted in possible contamination with foodborne pathogens.”

That’s from the USDA’s recall notice, which indicates the pathogen would be salmonella. Fratelli Beretta pulled charcuterie meats in January after a USDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation linked the meats to a salmonella outbreak.

The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service “collected unopened ready-to-eat coppa product as part of the investigation, which tested positive for salmonella, but that product was not released into commerce,” the USDA said. “After further investigation, FSIS determined that the product subject to the recall may be under processed.

“Further testing is ongoing to determine if the product sample that tested positive for salmonella is related to the outbreak.”
